Next-gen Honda Civic price list leaked ahead of launch

KUALA LUMPUR: Back in April, Honda pulled the wraps off the new eleventh-gen Civic sedan that featured a completely redesigned look, a restyled cabin with upgraded tech, and more efficient powertrains under the bonnet. However, the automaker kept numb on its price at that time and also did not reveal the availability date. But now, a few leaked slides posted on the Civic 11 Forum give us a pretty good idea of how much the sedan will cost in the US market.

According to the forum, the 2022 Honda Civic will be available in four variants, at the following prices:

• Civic LX - $21,700 (RM 89,649)
• Civic Sport - $23,100 (RM 95,433)
• Civic EX - $24,700 (RM 102,043)
• Civic Touring - $28,300 (RM 116,916) 

For a full makeover, it is not a drastic price increase. The new base variant is priced $450 more than before with a number of add-on features as standard fitment, which justify the bump. These include LED headlights, a 7.0-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, a digital driver's display, and a Honda Sensing suite. The latter comprises adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and traffic jam assist. 

The mid-spec Civic Sport trim is just $50 dearer than the previous model, the Civic EX is $300 more expensive, while the range-topping Touring price remains the same.  

To recap, the lower two trims are powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated DOHC i-VTEC gasoline engine that generates a maximum power of 158 hp and a peak torque of 187 Nm. The remaining two trims equip a 1.5-litre VTEC four-cylinder turbo mill that is tuned to churn out 180 hp and 240 Nm of peak torque. Both mills are mated to a continuously variable transmission sending power to the ground, however, the turbo gearbox unit also has an enhanced torque converter performance.

Other than price, the leaked slides also reveal that the 2022 Honda Civic will go on sale in the US market from June 16, 2021. Well, It is to be noted that the above price-list, as well as on-sale date, has not yet been confirmed officially, so things could change when the automaker comes up with an official press release.
