MINI launches JCW Countryman and Clubman in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: One of the leading car manufacturers, MINI, has launched two JCW (John Cooper Works) models – Clubman and Countryman in Malaysia.

The models mentioned above were revealed earlier this year in May. Speaking of the powertrain, both of them are powered by a revamped BMW B48 2.0-litre four-pot turbocharged engine, which is now capable of churning out a maximum power of 306 PS (320 hp) between 5,000 and 6,250 rpm and a peak torque of 450 Nm from 1,750 to 4,500 rpm. If we compare the figures to the earlier specs engine, it witnesses an increase of 75 PS of power and 100 Nm of torque compared to the previous.

The power is sent to all the four wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic sports automatic gearbox through the carmaker’s ALL4 all-wheel-drive system. The figures are enough to help the JCW Clubman to achieve the famous 0-100 kmph sprint in just 4.9 seconds, which was previously 6.3 seconds.

However, the JCW Countryman achieved the same sprint in 5.1 seconds. Moving to the top speed, both the vehicles are electronically limited to hit a top speed of 250 kmph. It now offers much-improved performance due to the incorporation of a bigger turbocharger, a redeveloped air intake duct, a reinforced crankshaft, enhancement in the engine, and other improvements.

With improved performance, the heating will also increase and to handle that, the cooling system of the vehicle has also been revamped to make sure the temperature is under control. The improvements in the cooling system include a larger-volume expansion tank, two external radiators, an independent cooling module mounting, a third cooling level through a condenser, and an electric ventilator with improved output.

Moving to the pricing, the JCW Clubman is priced at RM 358,888 and the Countryman comes with a price tag of RM 378,888. The pricing mentioned above is the on-road price, excluding the insurance charges.
