The 2025 Mini Convertible, unlike its previous version, won’t be made in the Netherlands. The car will be manufactured in the British plant in Oxford. A number of compact convertibles are available these days and the British heritage automobile brand believes to make it big in this segment. The 2025 Mini Convertible is closely related to the Mini 3 Door and the former is quite predictable in its looks. The car gets a new front grille and the round headlights are retained from the fixed-roof model. The 2025 Mini Convertible gets all-around LED lighting. There’s also a powered sunroof system where the roof slides back to reveal a 40cm opening to allow fresh air in the cabin. The soft top is fully automatic and can be operated with a button.

The 2025 Mini Convertible has short proportions and short overhangs. With its focused expression, the car’s front-end signals openness and shapes the iconic character. The new-generation Mini Convertible’s shoulder line extends to the lower part of the soft-top. 

The 2025 Mini Convertible retains its sporty appearance. The clean lines are characterised by striking contrast between the long wheelbase and short overhangs. The car runs on aerodynamically optimised, 17-inch alloy wheels. A slim black cladding runs over the wheel arches and the doors on both sides.

The minimalist exterior theme continues in the cabin. The interior is available in a choice of black or grey seats in a combination of textile silhouette and artificial leather. The John Cooper Works (JCW) seats are also always available in in beige and Nightshade Blue synthetic leather with contrast stitching. The dashboard is dominated by a 9.4-inch circular touchscreen infotainment unit that’s common to most present-day Mini cars. The display is bright. Most of the functions, including air-conditioning, have been moved to the screen and it takes time to get used to the layers of submenus. Gear selection is via two toggle switches below the screen. The engine start button is like the old-fashioned ignition key. There’s also a drive-mode selector. Boot space is rather small at 215 litres. It shrinks to 160 litres when the roof is folded.  

Is the Mini Convertible spacious?

With 3,876mm length, 1,727mm width, and 1,415mm height, the 2025 Mini Convertible isn’t exactly a spacious car. The two front seats are still comfortable and get some legroom. The JCW seats are nicely bolstered and provide assurance while turning corners at a high speed. The driver’s seat in comfortable and offers multiple levels of adjustment. Adjustable lumbar support is part of standard equipment. Forward visibility is great, courtesy of the upright windscreen pillars and the snub-nosed bonnet.

The 2025 Mini Convertible is strictly a four-passenger car. Getting into the rear seats is a challenge because the Mini Convertible is inspired by the Mini 3 Door. Entry is by folding down the driver’s seat and the front passenger’s seat. Space is really short for taller adults and they are almost certainly to find their knees brushing against the back of the front seat.

There are a number of useful cubby holes in the cabin. There’s a neat space to place the smartphone beneath the charging socket and USB ports. There are two sizeable cup holders in front of the gear lever. The rear seat can be folded 50:50 to free up more boot space. But it’s a step up from the boot floor and loading longer items becomes harder. Loading cargo into the boot is in any way a bit tricky because the lid is bottom-hinged and opens like a drop-down, tray-type tailgate.

The 2025 Mini Convertible is hauled by a turbocharged, four-cylinder, 2.0-litre petrol engine that produces 163PS/250 Nm. The motor is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission. The steering may feel heavy at a low speed but lightens up when the car revs. While the ride is sporty, the suspension is a bit on the harder side. Some of the harder bumps are felt inside the cabin. Despite being a soft top, sound insulation is pretty good. But the engine hum is still audible.
