MG4 EV and ZS EV launched in Indonesia, should be Malaysia next right?

KUALA LUMPUR: Apparently, MG is set to make its grand return to Malaysia, and according to DSF.my who broke the story, they've already established numerous showrooms in preparation for the big unveiling.

What's even more intriguing is that their flagship model for the Malaysian market will be none other than the sleek MG4. Naturally, any debut of this car in our neighboring countries sparks our interest, and the most recent country to host the MG4 launch is Indonesia.

What's noteworthy is that they not only introduced the MG4 but also unveiled the MGZS EV, a cutting-edge SUV. Now, let's dive into the specifications of these vehicles in Indonesia and see what perhaps maybe a taster of what's to come.

MG Motor Indonesia officially unveiled two electric cars today, namely the MG4 EV and ZS EV.

Both electric cars are assembled at the MG factory located in Cikarang, West Java. This facility is owned by the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), which also produces Wuling vehicles, which has quite the presence there.

In terms of aesthetics, the MG4 EV boasts a U-shaped design with sleek LED headlights, vertical front turn signals, and subtly prominent brake lights. Inside the car on display at the launch, the EV showcases a sporty burgundy theme, premium materials, and a smart connectivity system to ensure a comfortable driving experience.

The infotainment system is equipped with a 360-degree camera and Intelligent Car Connectivity technology, including maps, voice control, remote control apps, and online music streaming.

The MG4 EV features a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor capable of delivering a maximum power of 170hp and peak torque of 250Nm. Additionally, it is equipped with a 51 kWh Ferrous Phosphate battery. Based on NEDC tests, this battery offers a driving range of up to 425km.

In terms of safety features, this electric vehicle is equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assist, and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist with Traffic Sign Recognition.

Meanwhile, the MG ZS EV utilizes a PM Synchronous Motor supported by a 50.3 kWh Lithium Ternary CATL battery. When fully charged, it offers a driving range of up to 403km. In fast-charging mode, it takes just 30 minutes to reach 80 percent battery capacity.

In terms of power, it can generate 174hp and 280Nm of torque. Safety features for the MG ZS EV include Lane Assist System (LAS), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Front Drive Assist (FDA), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Intelligent High-Beam Control (IHC), Rear Drive Assist (RDA), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Door Open Warning (DOW).

For its prices, the MG4 EV can be had for IDR 433 million (RM129,193), while the MG ZS EV will set Indonesians back IDR 453 million (RM135,160). 

Released in Thailand in the latter part of last year, the MG 4 Electric shares identical specifications with the Thai variant. Prices for this model commence at ฿869,000 (RM116,600) for the base Model D and climb to ฿969,000(RM130,170) for the top-tier variant.

As such, it's conceivable that we might receive the same specifications, although the pricing remains uncertain.
