Mercedes-Benz E-Class facelift arrives in Thailand
KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Thailand lineup now has the E-Class sedan facelift in stock. It was only in March 2020 that the refreshed sedan was introduced in the country, benefiting from a few styling and feature upgrades.
The Thai-spec E-Class is offered in three trim options - one diesel and two petrol plug-in hybrid. The former E 220 d AMG Sport variant is priced at 3.54 million baht (approx. 477,980), while the latter two include the 3.19 million baht (RM 429,606) E 300 eAvantgarde and the 3.77 million baht (RM 507,717) e 300 e AMG Dynamic.
On the outside, the sedan gets a new six-pointer grille, sleek & angular headlights, two-piece tail lights. Also, depending on the exterior package there are a few notable design differences. For instance, the E 300 eAvantgarde sports twin louvers and a subtle bumper. The E 220 d AMG Sport and E 300 e AMG Dynamic trims benefit from AMG Line design elements that include - reshaped grille with a single louver and diamond pins, aggressive bumper, trapezoidal exhausts, chrome trim, prominent rear bumper.
The E 220 d AMG Sport is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel mill making a maximum power of 194 PS at 3,800 rpm and a peak torque of 400 Nm from 1,600 to 2,800 rpm. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox. The 0 to 100 kmph distance is covered in 7.3 seconds and it attains a top speed of 240 kmph.
Coming to the PHEV options they source power from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit generating 211 PS at 5,500 rpm and 350 Nm from 1,600 to 4,000 rpm. The e-motor makes 122 PS of power and the combined system output stands at 320 PS and 700 Nm. It calls for 0 to 100 kmph sprint time of 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 250 kmph. The e-motor gets its juice from a 7.4kW onboard charger. On electricity alone, these variants can run for 50 km and attain a top speed of 130 kmph.
Thanks to the 7.kW onboard charger, it takes around 1.5 hours for the battery to go from 10 to 100 percent via a 22kW wall box. The charging time increases to five hours if the conventional power socket is used instead.
Standard safety equipment list in E-Class facelift includes seven-airbags, ABS, ESP, Blind Spot Assist, Adaptive Brake with Hold & Hill-Start Assist, Attention Assist, Parktronic, cruise control and Speedtronic, Parking Pilot with Active Parking Assist, reverse camera, and Pre-Safe. The range-topping E 300 e AMG Dynamic variant benefits from a surround-view camera.
