Mercedes-AMG boss confirmed to cease production of hypercars!
Kuala Lumpur: A new report has surfaced confirming that Mercedes-AMG is not going to work on producing a hypercar similar to that of a Ferrari LaFerrari or a Porsche 918. Not, at least in the upcoming months, said Mercedes-AMG Boss, Tobias Moers.
In a recent interview with Autoblog, Moers went as far to say that, “Unfortunately, if we find we should do something like that, there’s no engineering capacity (for AMG) to do that in the near future.”
One major reason for ceasing hypercars production is its less popularity in the auto market. On the contrary, there are high-performance models ranging from the compact AMG A 45s to the flag-bearing AMG GTs which are in global demand by the customers. So, the company is in the process to increase the production of its V12 engines rather than focussing on hypercars production.
Even more, a hypercar like LaFerrari failed to make money for the marque which in turn forced the Mercedes-AMG boss to focus on other priorities. Even the idea of a direct replacement for the SLS supercar has been washed out.
“We’re really busy with the next-generation E-Class (W213), which will be the biggest step we’ve ever made from one generation E-Class to the next one, regarding driving dynamics,” Moers told Autoblog. Mercedes-Benz has unleashed facelifted high-performance version of Mercedes SL-Class some time back only, which clearly states that the elite brand is busy in focussing on developing its next-generation E 63.

As a result of which, we can expect the next-generation E 63 model to come equipped with the brand new 4.0-litre V8 Bitrubo engine, replacing the old one or say the current one, 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine. This new engine unit is expected to boost a power output of 600 HP for the vehicle, a little more than the current E 63's 585 HP.
Speaking of the GT, an expansion of the model’s family is also on the cards, with a road-going GT3 prototype spied several times before. The coming range-topping GT3 is said to be inspired by the full-blown AMG GT3 racer that was unveiled earlier this year.
