Mazda 6e makes regional debut at Bangkok Motor Show – Could Malaysia be next?

KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda’s latest electrified offering, the 6e, has officially made its first appearance in ASEAN at the 2025 Bangkok International Motor Show.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What is the Mazda 6e and where did it make its ASEAN debut?
The Mazda 6e is an all-electric sedan that debuted in the ASEAN region at the 2025 Bangkok International Motor Show. How is the Mazda 6e related to the Mazda EZ-6 sold in China?
The Mazda 6e is essentially the European/global twin of the Mazda EZ-6, which went on sale in China in October 2024, with the 6e offering a larger 80kWh battery option not available in the EZ-6.Will the Mazda 6e be launched in Malaysia?
As of now, there’s no official confirmation from Bermaz, Mazda’s Malaysian distributor, on whether the 6e will be introduced locally. The all-electric sedan was only just revealed globally at the Brussels Motor Show a couple of months ago, so its arrival in the region is relatively quick.

The 6e carries a design that feels like a natural evolution of the Mazda 6, but with clear cues that it’s aimed at the EV segment. Up front, there’s no grille—just an illuminated fascia bordered by a full-width light bar and flanked by slim LED headlights.

The rear is equally clean, with Mazda’s signature taillight design, minimal badging (just “Mazda” across the trunk and “6e” on the corner), and a sleek, almost concept-like vibe. It sits on two-tone alloy wheels that pair well with the black cladding and silver side accents.
The model might not look drastically different from Mazda’s Kodo design playbook, but it does indicate a new direction.
That makes sense, considering this is a product of Mazda’s collaboration with its Chinese partner, Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. The partnership brings Changan’s experience in electrification and smart cabin technologies into the mix, while Mazda maintains its focus on driving dynamics and build quality.

Interestingly, the 6e is closely related to another model: the Mazda EZ-6, which went on sale in China in October 2024. The two are essentially twins, but with slightly different market focuses.
The 6e is targeted at Europe and other global regions, and it comes with one important spec difference—the availability of a larger 80kWh battery.
This battery option, which delivers up to 552 km of range, is not offered in the Chinese-market EZ-6. There’s also a smaller 68.8kWh pack available, providing up to 479 km.

So far, no local specifications have been shared for Thailand, but the model is confirmed as one of two Mazda EVs launching there this year.
As for the Malaysian market, Bermaz—Mazda’s official distributor—hasn’t said anything about bringing in the 6e just yet. At the moment, they seem more focused on pushing their new EV partner, Xpeng, which is already off to a decent start thanks to the G6 SUV.
Still, with the 6e now present in the region, it’s not far-fetched to think it could eventually land in Malaysia as well. Given that Bermaz Auto is already actively expanding its EV portfolio through brands like Xpeng and even Depal, it’s only a matter of time before its flagship brand, Mazda, joins the local EV lineup too.
