Malaysia Autoshow 2024: Proton showcases the all-new S70 R3 racing car

KUALA LUMPUR: The highly anticipated Malaysia Autoshow 2024 has begun with a pomp and show. Several cutting-edge models and the latest innovations in automotive technology are displayed. One of the exciting models that take centre stage at the event is the all-new Proton S70 R3 racing concept car.

Developed by Proton’s motorsport arm, R3 Motorsports, the S70 R3 is based on the brand’s latest sedan, the S70. It marks a significant milestone for the company as it’s their first new racing model since the Saga R3 in 2019. 

The new racing car pays homage to Proton's longstanding racing legacy, which traces back to its early days before the R3 era when the national automaker was involved in rallying and circuit competitions with the original Saga. 

While the new racing car is currently under development, Proton confirmed that it will mark the company’s grand return to the Sepang 1,000km endurance race. It features an upgraded aerodynamic package tailored for optimal racing performance. Two units of the car will campaign at this year's S1K race.  

Proton R3 has done incredibly well in the past, with five wins under its belt, surpassing all other teams. It also achieved a remarkable feat by securing victory for three consecutive years from 2017 to  2019. 

“PROTON has a long history in motorsports, starting with the original Proton Saga, and our involvement ramped up with the inception of Proton R3 in 2003. Since then, we have competed and won in various competitions up to a global level with models as varied as the Proton Satria, Waja, Suprima S, Iriz, and the latest version of the Saga.  Now, with the Proton S70 R3, we are adding another milestone to our legacy, marking not only the return of the  Proton name to the S1K event but also the first racing car based on a model jointly developed by Proton and  Geely,” said Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, PROTON.  

Enthusiasts can catch the preview of the Proton S70 R3 racing car at Malaysia Autoshow 2024 set to take place at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Selangor (MAEPS) from May 22. During the event, buyers and visitors can also take advantage of Proton’s exclusive promotions and rewards, such as - 

• On the booking of any brand-new Proton model at the event, customers will get exclusive gifts such as sunshades, toll readers, and wireless chargers (for specific models). 
• Those who will book the car at the Autoshow and get it registered by June 30, 2024, can also enjoy two years of free service maintenance for the X50, X70, and X90, along with a RM 500 cash voucher for the S70, Saga, and Persona. 
• In Test Drive Lucky Spin, visitors can earn a lucky spin to win exclusive Proton merchandise after test-driving a Proton car.
