Malaysia Autoshow 2019: Take a glimpse of new Proton Persona

KUALA LUMPUR: Finally, the day is here. Malaysia's most exciting and largest auto show has just started today. Viewed as the biggest show of the country, Malaysia Autoshow 2019 is one of the more ostentatious places in the country for carmakers usually showcases their extra special products. And one such car is the 2019 Proton Persona.

About a month ago, it was showcased by the company and claimed to be coming with a total of 303 tweaks over its predecessor. Prior to this, some images of this B-segment were revealed and it was also mentioned that it will be launched alongside the facelifted Iriz. At the preview event, Proton also claimed that the 2019 model will assure lower maintenance cost than its other B-segment competitors. The brand also assured that 2019 Proton Persona’s servicing will be trouble-free than its competitors as the carmaker has several 3S and 4S centres in the country.

The car comes with a wide range of new features and a lot of changes, prominent by its interior and exterior both. One can notice a new instrument cluster inside the cabin that comes with a large multi-information display and the dials are cleaner than its previous model. Moreover, the car gets an inbuilt eSIM, which is claimed to be a first-addition to appear in its line-up.

Speaking about the design, the completely changed front fascia is worth to be mentioned. The front grille gets a new “Infinite Weave” pattern and the massive lower grille now comes in a slim design. The lower bumper is also revised and received a chrome strip. 2019 Proton Persona rides on 15-inch dual-tone multi-spoke alloy wheels.

Unexpectedly, there are no changes made in mechanical configuration. The facelifted Proton Persona will have the same 1.6-litre four-cylinder VVT petrol mill. It can give a maximum power of 107 hp at 5,750 rpm and a peak torque of 150 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or CVT.

Online flash booking of this car started on March 12 and during the ten-days long event, willing buyers had a chance to book this car by spending a fee of just RM 9.99.
