KUALA LUMPUR: There is no other brand except Land Rover, whose name is more synonymous with SUVs. It is the only segment it works on, and we can’t doubt its knowledge on the subject. Of all the cars in its lineup, the Evoque is one of the fastest-selling family SUV, and the Discovery Sport has a 5-star rating in the road test, thus proving its grip in the game. However, it’s impossible to run long in the game with all the competition around without bringing any changes or revisions. And the same is done by Land Rover; the automaker has given both the cars, Evoque and Discovery Sport, through updates.

As the heading suggests, here we’ll be discussing the 2021 Discovery Sport and what new it has on offer.

2021 Discovery Sport Engine

The refreshed Discovery Sport comes with an efficient engine available in two variants - D165 and D200. It also benefits from a 48-volt mild-hybrid system whose electric assistance helps reduce fuel consumption by enhancing the stop-start system that allows the engine to stay off for a longer interval. As for the performance figures, the D165 makes 163 PS and 380 Nm, whereas the D200 generates 204 PS and 430 Nm. For the former, the transmission options include a six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmission. All the models are offered with the all-wheel-drive train. Also, it emits as little as 163 grams per km CO2 in the Discover Sport.

For an even greener ride, the customers can opt for the P300e plug-in hybrid trim, which the company claims has an electric-only range of 68 km and a fuel economy of around 75 kmpl. Also, part of the package is a 2.0-litre petrol engine that churns 290 PS and 400 Nm. It comes coupled with an eight-speed automatic and a mild hybrid system. It is one of the most powerful and quickest models in the lineup and goes from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.4 seconds. However, the P290 engine is part of the Discovery Sport Black Edition model, which is based on the R-Dynamic S trim.

2021 Discovery Sport Design

As can be seen in the images, the 2021 Discovery Sport sports a striking look with beautiful cuts and finishes. The SUVs standard kit includes the following -

As the name suggests, the Discovery Sport Black Edition showcases a sporty design that includes a Black Pack with exterior brightwork, black roof, and door mirror. It also comes with hiding red brake callipers, 21-inch alloy wheels in either machined two-tone/black, and is wrapped in Luxtec Suedecloth or grained leather upholstery.

2021 Discovery Sport  Features

One of the biggest highlights of the 2021 Discovery Sport is the introduction of the all-new infotainment system called Pivi Pro that replaces the earlier Touch Pro unit. The new system was enabled because of the latest Electric Vehicle Architecture. It is a customisable flat interface that allows the driver and others to control several functions. The company claims it to reduce taps to around 50 percent. Further, this system provides wireless updates, and better music streaming with Spotify. The passenger could also check air quality inside the cabin using the touchscreen and purify it if needed.

The 2021 Discovery Sport specs kit also included an optional Activity Key with a built-in LCD, allowing you to start and unlock the car. There’s also an advanced cabin filtration system that keeps fine particulates under 2.5 microns in size and allergens out. Other additions include fast-charging USB-C ports, reverse autonomous emergency braking, and a new steering wheel with a more conventional scroll wheel.

2021 Discovery Sport safety updates include a 3D surround camera and a new rear collision monitor.
