Can accommodate eight passengers
The Defender 130 can accommodate up to eight passengers in a 2+3+3 layout, which makes it the only mainstream SUV in the European market that can carry more than seven occupants. The automaker arranged the three rows in a ‘stadium’ format with the centre and last rows slightly elevated for better forward visibility. As for convenient accessibility to the third row, there is a sliding and folding middle row.
Land Rover claims the three adult passengers sitting in the last row can travel comfortably with generous headroom, padded armrests, heated seats, a storage area, and USB-C ports. Further ensuring the comfort is a four-zone air conditioning system.
Also, part of the standard kit is an 11.4-inch curved touchscreen paired with the latest generation of the brand’s Pivi Pro software and dual panoramic sunroofs. A choice of new interior trim options is also available.
Multiple engine options
Land Rover offers the all-new Defender 130 in three mild-hybridised powertrains, each paired with an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox and Terrain Response system. Included in the list are two straight-six petrol mills - P300 & P400; the former dishes out a maximum power of 300 hp and a peak torque of 470 Nm, while the latter brings a hike of 100 hp and 80 Nm. These enable the SUV to hit the century sprint in 8.0 seconds and 6.6 seconds, respectively.
As for the D300 straight-six diesel variant, the power numbers are rated at 300 hp and 650 Nm, which helps the SUV run from zero to 100 kmph in 7.5sec.
Price
The new Defender 130 is now available to order in the US with a starting price of $68,000 (approximately equal to RM 297,736) without destination and delivery taxes.
