Jeep re-enters Malaysia with 2020 Compass and Wrangler

KUALA LUMPUR: The American auto brand has re-entered the country under the TAHB Automotive banner unlike before when it marked its existence in Malaysia under the DRB-Hicom label. The company has brought its two popular models, the 2020 Wrangler and the 2020 Compass, to the Malaysian shores along with the Renegade, the Grand Cherokee SRT and the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk in the pipeline, likely to be released in the third quarter.

Both the Compass and the Wrangler have been launched in two trims each. The Compass is available in Limited and Longitude trims, with both models powered by a 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine but different transmissions and outputs. On the other hand, you get the Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon and Wrangler Unlimited Sport as Wrangler’s two trims, both available in two- and four-door body styles.

The engine fitted inside the Limited Compass is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox and is capable of pumping out a max power of 170 PS and a peak torque of 250 Nm, while the Longitude’s engine comes paired with a 7-speed DCT, with power and torque outputs of 164 PS and 250 Nm respectively.

On the outside, the Compass Longitude gets rain-sensitive wipers, auto headlamps, reversing camera, powered tailgate release, 17-inch or 18-inch dual-tone wheel designs and fog lamps along with cornering lamps. Six exterior colours are available to choose from, including Atlantic Blue Pearl Coat, Grigio Chiario, Bronze Metallic, Brilliant Black Cyrstal Pearl Coat, Mocca Latte, and Colorado Red.

While on the inside, it is blessed with a 7.0-inch infotainment system with touchscreen and integrated voice command and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Also, it gets black with white ski grey accent stitching and black with cattle tan and light diesel accent stitching as choices. In terms of safety, it gets ABS, brake assist, child seat anchors, roll mitigation, traction and stability control, rain brake support and tyre pressure monitoring system.

The Wrangler Unlimited Sport’s 4WD system gets Command-Trac two-speed transfer case with Dana front and rear axles. The Rubicon’s 4WD system gets Rock-Trac transfer case with Dana front and rear heavy-duty locking axles. Inside, you’d find a 7.0-inch Uconnect infotainment system with voice command, reverse camera, removable carpet and drain plugs. The Wrangler runs on 17-inch alloys, features a smoker’s pack and an Alpine premium audio system.

The Rubicon gets to benefit from features like electronic sway bar disconnect function, high fender flares, skid plates and steel off-road rock rails. There are options like leather seats, LED lighting, a smoker’s pack, Alpine premium audio unit and body-coloured spare tyre cover.

The Wrangler Unlimited Sport comes with two exterior colours, Firecracker Red and black, while the Rubicon can be purchased in Hellayella Yellow, Ocean Blue Metallic and black.

The pricing for both models is yet to be finalized and the company would reveal the same by the end of this month. But what’s confirmed is that all the Jeep models will come with a 5-year warranty and a free service package. A 13,000 square-foot 3S facility is now open in Glenmarie which operates between 9 am to 6 pm on weekdays, while on the weekends, the timings are from 10 am to 5 pm.
