Infiniti Q60 Project Black S with F1 tech will never be a reality

KUALA LUMPUR: Do you remember the Infiniti Q60 Project Slack concept? We won't blame you if you didn't, as the said concept was introduced in 2017 and since that, a lot has happened in the automotive industry. Well, to brush up, the Infiniti Q60 Project Black S concept is based on the Q60 Red Sport 400, and it's powered by a Biturbo 3.0-litre V6 mill churning a maximum power of 563 hp. It was assigned to benefit from Formula One powertrain technology, but it all seems like a dream now. Why?

According to Automotive News, Infiniti has officially canceled the undertaking. In short, the inspiring Project Black S will never make it to the production stage. Reason? Well, it is said that Roland Krueger, Infiniti's former boss was the one pushing the Q60 Project Black S concept. However, after his departure, the program had no one to vouch for it and it eventually died.

Infiniti Q60 Project Black S details -

As mentioned earlier, the Q60 Project Black S is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-litre mill with three motor-generators for energy recovery. It also uses a 4.4kWh lithium-ion battery for storing power. The said mill churns out a maximum power of 563 hp and a peak torque of 475 Nm. On the performance front, it was able to complete the century sprint in just four seconds. Infiniti even completes two fully-functional prototypes for testing the engine.

It was in August 2019 that Infiniti's decision-makers were supposed to take their stance on the Q60 Black Project S future. It is clear that they have put a full-stop on its future, no production.

Response?

Well, the dealers and enthusiasts don't seem to be affected by the decision and some would rather prefer a QX60 crossover.

However, to us, the Infiniti Q60 Project Black S was and will remain a true inspiration.
