Indonesia to get the all-new Corolla Altis; Malaysia next stop
KUALA LUMPUR: Earlier this week the new Corolla Altis made is debut in Thailand, and now according to a few sources, Indonesia is next to receive the new sedan. The 2019 model is set to launch in Indonesia next Thursday, i.e., 12th September. The launch event media invites are out now.
The Indonesia-spec Corolla Altis is powered by a 2ZR-FBE 1.8-litre naturally-aspirated powerplant that offers a maximum power of 140 PS along with a peak torque of 177 Nm. The engine is coupled with a CVT unit. The Thai market gets the 2019 Corolla Altis in two engine options; the other one is a 1ZR-FBE 1.6-litre offering 125 PS and 156 Nm.
In addition to the two conventional engines, the Thai market also gets a 1.8-litre Hybrid unit, and it is the same mill that resides in the Indonesia-spec C-HR Hybrid. Therefore, there is a strong possibility of Altis Hybrid. The hybrid version combines the 2ZR-FXE 1.8-litre Atkinson-cycle that develops 98 PS and 122 Nm with an electric motor with 72 PS and 122 Nm. The total system output stands at 122 PS.
The new Corolla Altis, unlike the older version, features a more aggressive design that is majorly dominated by the large lower grille along with a sleek headlight.
The new Corolla Altis specs sheet tells that the sedan measures 4,640 mm in length (10 mm more), 1,780 mm in width (5 mm wider), and 1,435 mm in height ( 45 mm lower). The wheelbase, however, remains the same at 2,700 mm. The new sedan stands on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) that also underpins the Camry, C-HR, and Prius.
The cabin features a layered dash design that fits a freestanding head unit that seems more minimalist than the previous design. Toyota has loaded the car with new features like - an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a large head-up display, rear air-con vents, and seven-inch digital speedo display.
The Toyota Corolla Altis 2019 kit also includes - LED headlamps, T-connect telematics, an acoustic glass windscreen, the digital speedo and HUD, navigation, powered rear sunshade, tyre pressure monitoring system, a Nanoe ioniser, navigation, and the Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver-assist systems.
