Hyundai teases 2021 Ioniq 5; early 2021 debut confirm
KUALA LUMPUR: The 2021 Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV teaser is out now, though it doesn't show the car itself but confirms an early next year unveiling.
Another focal point of the said Hyundai EV are the three 'key differentiators' on offer, each representing a specific feature. Included in the list of 'key differentiators' are -
- Extra Power for Life - indicates EVs bi-functional charging functionality
- Extra Time for You - EVs fast charging capabilities
- Extraordinary Experiences - refers to an array of soon to announced features
The Ioniq 5 will be the first model to launch under the brand's Ioniq all-electric sub-brand. It will be a mid-size SUV taking styling inspiration from 2019 revealed Hyundai 45 EV concept. The EV showcases the same retro-inspired design, creased surface, pixel-heavy front, and rear LED taillight.
Hyundai’s latest EV will be underpinned by the rear-wheel-drive-based E-GMP electric architecture. The said platform uses an 800V charging architecture that when combined with DC fast charging at up to 350kW should allow for 0 to 80 percent charge in just 18 minutes. With the WLTP-rated range of over 500 km, the EV can complete a 0 to 100 kmph sprint in under 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 260 kmph.
Hyundai is yet to reveal the exact specifications of the upcoming Ioniq 5, however as per The Korean Car Blog, an online publication the EV will be offered in two battery options - base 58kWh unit capable of 354 km of range and a range-topping 73 kWh pack offering 450 km. Further, it claimed the Ioniq 5 to measure 4,635 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 11,890 mm in width, and 1,605 mm in height.
The rumours surrounding the 2021 Hyundai Ioniq 5 will end with the SUVs early 2021 debut.
