Hyundai teases 2021 Elantra ahead of its global premiere
KUALA LUMPUR: Leading South Korean carmaker, Hyundai Motor is all set to premiere the seventh-generation Elantra sedan on 17th March at Lot Studios in West Hollywood, California. Ahead of the car’s global debut, Hyundai has teased the upcoming car in a new set of pictures. The Elantra was introduced in 1990 and has been one of the bestselling cars for Hyundai. It is also known as the Hyundai Avante in some markets.
Hyundai has claimed that the new-generation Elantra will be lower, wider, and longer in proportions.
The all-new Elantra sedan follows Hyundai’s ‘Parametric Dynamics’ and adopts a more coupe-like roofline. The car looks more dynamic compared to its outgoing version. The profile appears to be much bolder than the polyhedral shape of its body. The new Elantra gets sleek headlamp units along with an additional crease line which connects the rear taillights. The lid of the boot seemingly doubles up as a spoiler.
The 2021 Hyundai Elantra’s front is visible from a video released by the company. The design seems to be inspired by the new-generation Sonata. The new Elantra gets a wider griller which blends into the lighting cluster on both ends. The angular tail lamps are connected via a full-width light bar which runs between the model script and the Hyundai logo.
The interior of the upcoming Elantra is an overhaul from its current version. Hyundai calls it an ‘Immersive Cocoon’ which has been designed to lend a more driver-focused experience. The cabin itself is rather minimalistic. The dashboard comprises two integrated displays. Notable touchpoints include the low-mounted door handles. The new Elantra’s steering wheel is like the Optima. There’s a small storage space beneath the central console.
Hyundai, expectedly, has not disclosed the powertrain details of the Elantra. It is likely to be revealed closer to the car’s official premiere. The 2019 Elantra facelift is available in the Executive trim in the Malaysian market. It is hauled by a 2.0-litre petrol engine which produces 156PS maximum power at 6,200rpm and 192Nm peak torque at 4,000rpm. The Elantra currently commands a price of RM 109,888 and competes with the Honda City, Perodua Bezza, and the Toyota Vios in Malaysia.
