Hyundai Engine Technology in 2016 Sonata Plug-in Hybrid finds place in Ward’s 10 Best Engines list
Kuala Lumpur: The South Korean house of innovation is widely appreciated across the globe for its advanced engine technologies. Well, Hyundai has proved it again this time in the Hybrid category. The Korean carmaker's technologically advanced 2016 Sonata Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) has marked its place among the most prestigious list of the Ward’s 10 Best Engines list. It has happened for the first time that a plug-in hybrid engine technology has been given a place in this acclaimed list.
Drew Winter, editor-in-chief at the WardsAuto World magazine said, “For Hyundai’s first entry into the plug-in hybrid segment, Hyundai engineers did an impeccable job blending fuel efficiency with refinement and daily usability.”

Hyundai Sonata engine can be detailed as a 2.0-litre Nu four-cylinder GDI power mill that churns out a maximum power of 154 horsepower and 140 lb. ft. of torque. This power is transmitted to its front axles using the six-speed automatic transmission which is not usually available in other hybrids of this range. Apart from the gasoline unit, the Hyundai Sonata features a 50 kW electric motor with a standard torque converter. This powerful electric motor is powered by a 9.8 kWh lithium polymer battery pack that boasts a best in its class electric range (AER) of 27 miles.
