Honda recalls City in Thailand over faulty window concerns

KUALA LUMPUR: Launched in November last year, the 2020 Honda City has been recalled in Thailand. According to the automaker, the recall has been initiated due to a fault in window seals and rubber beadings. The company will fix the issue or replace the required components at the earliest and for the time being the deliveries of the new City have also been postponed.

The first batch of the all-new City produced at the company’s Ayutthaya province plant is likely to be affected. Note that it is the all-new model and does not carry over any component or sheet metal from its predecessor. Since it is the first batch of the all-new City, Honda is likely to be prompt in making quick amendments.

The first buyers of all-new City were presented with gifts worth THB 6,490 (RM 864 approx) at the time of delivery. Honda also said, “customers who reserve an all-new Honda City between 25 November and 31 December, 2019, and take delivery of the car within 31 January, 2020, will receive a Fitbit Smart Tracker Charge 3 in a graphite/black color.”

No timeline has been shared by Honda for fixing the problem. However, we expect the Japanese automaker to take the necessary steps as soon as possible. The customers can expect an intimation from Honda either via call or email for paying a visit to their nearest authorized Honda dealership for the required inspection.

For unawares, the all-new Thai-spec City is powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generated 122 PS of max power and 173 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 7-speed CVT. In Thailand, it is priced from THB 579,500 (RM 80,035 approx) for the base S model.
