Honda detailed its new interior design philosophy; set for debut with new Civic
KUALA LUMPUR: A few days back, we got to see the first official glimpse of the eleventh-generation Honda Civic revealing just its exterior. But now as the revamped sedan moves towards its debut, we are here with some more insights about its interior. The Japanese auto giant has recently released a new video highlighting the brand’s new design philosophy that we will tend to see in Honda’s upcoming models, starting with the eleventh-generation Honda Civic.
Dubbed as “simplicity and something,” the new philosophy said to involve the “human-centered designs of early Honda vehicles.” According to the automaker, it eliminates complexity by bringing upfront a minimalistic design that makes the most use of the advanced user aesthetics. The new philosophy emphasizes Honda's 'Man Maximum/Machine Minimum' approach that helps in maximizing interior space for occupants while minimizing space needed for mechanical parts.
"Simplicity in design requires not only a strong philosophy but a discipline toward the user experience," said Johnathan Norman, Creative Lead for Honda Interior Design in the US. "We've heard from designers working for other brands who say they were inspired by the simple, human-centered design of old Hondas. Well, so are we!"
The new philosophy will focus on less visual clutter, thin pillars, a low cowl, and a huge greenhouse, as these critically help in making a roomy cabin with a clear view of the road required for better visibility. The term "simplicity" refers to the design language, whereas the "and something" refers to the unique personality of each Honda model, explains Norman.
"It's our 'simple' approach to design with the 'and something' that will help differentiate each product and make your future Honda vehicles something you want to drive and are excited to use,” he added.
For the key features, there will be real controls with less visual noise avoiding driver’s distraction. The infotainment screen will have large buttons with faster processors and fewer commands available in the menu options.
Well, for more details on Honda’s new design philosophy, we have to wait for the new Civic global debut, that is just one day away.
