Honda Civic e:HEV launch in Thailand expected this year

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda pulled the wraps off the new Civic hatchback last year in June with the promise that it will be introducing the hybrid version of the car sometime in 2022. Well, the new year is here and we still have no official update on the arrival of the 2022 Honda Civic e:HEV.

However, we just came across a report of Headlight Mag in which the Thai publication reported that the petrol-electric version of the Civic will soon launch in Thailand. As per the source, the hybrid car is expected to get an enhanced 2.0-litre i-MMD engine that is available with the Accord Hybrid, instead of the 1.5-litre hybrid setup powering the City and HR-V e:HEV models.

Under the bonnet of the Honda Accord e:HEV lies a 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle unit generating a maximum power output of 145 PS and a peak torque of 175 Nm along with a 184 PS/315 Nm electric motor. Combinedly, the setup produces an output of 215 PS. When it comes to the Civic e:HEV power figures, no details are available as of now.

Coming to the local market, Honda launched the new 11th-gen Civic sedan on our shores in January this year. The revamped sedan hosts several design changes, a more powerful engine, and an advanced safety pack. It is on sale in three variants - E, V, and RS, at a price ranging from RM 125,635 to RM 144,350. We hope the Civic e:HEV variant will be added to the local range soon after the launch in the Land of Smiles.
