GWM previews the Ora Lightning Cat at the Auto Shanghai 2023

KUALA LUMPUR: The Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors entered the Malaysian market last year with the introduction of the cute-looking Good Cat under the Ora brand. The lineup of the GWM sub-brand also comprises another electric Cat model, the Lightning Cat, that is likely to hit the local shores soon.

The Ora Lightning Cat is currently on display at the ongoing Auto Shanghai 2023 in China offering us a sneak peek of the upcoming EV. 

The Lightning Cat is a five-door electric vehicle featuring a polarizing design combining retro vibes with touches from luxury carmakers like Porsche and Bentley. It measures 4,871 mm in length, 1,862 mm in width, and 1,500 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 2,870 mm. The EV has a drag coefficient of 0.22Cd.

GWM offers the EV in two powertrain options - 

• A single-motor front-wheel drive setup churning out a maximum power of 204 hp and a peak torque of 340 Nm
• A dual-motor all-wheel drive option good for making a combined output of 408 hp and 680 Nm of torque

The motors are fed by an 83.5-kilowatt-hour battery which offers a driving range of 600 kilometres (on China’s CLTC) on a single charge.

Parts of the Ora Lightning Cat equipment kit are a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument panel, a 12.3-inch screen infotainment system, and ORA-PILOT 3.0 driving assistance system. The latter works in tandem with 28 sensors including 1 ADAS camera, 5 millimetre-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, 4 all-around view cameras, 4 side view cameras, and one 3D facial recognition camera.
