GWM aims to become an xEV leader in Malaysia; will launch 9 models

KUALA LUMPUR: While launching its first electric car, the Ora Good Cat, in Malaysia, GWM announced its big plans for the local market. The Chinese automaker aims to become an xEV leader in Malaysia with the rollout of 9 models in just three years. It will be backed up by the local assembly of the GWM cars that will begin in 2023.

For those who are unaware, GWM is an automotive conglomerate comprising different brands - Ora, Haval, Ora, Wey, and GWM. Earlier, the company used to sell Haval products through local representative Go Auto and now it started a new journey with the launch of the Good Cat. 

During the event, Elliot Zhang, GWM President detailed the following strategies to be undertaken by the company to achieve the leadership - 

• As mentioned above, the company will launch 9 cars in three years; the lineup will include a car, an SUV, and a pickup
• The automaker will open fifteen ‘unified multi-form stores’ in the country covering 70% of the region’s capital cities. According to it, 90% of the brand’s expected car buyers reside in the targeted area
• It will finalise the first 5 authorised dealerships in December 2022.
• The company’s CKD operations will begin next year and generate more than 2,000 jobs 

• As for ensuring the charging solutions, GWM will join hands with the local partners to offer complimentary portable and home chargers, partner store chargers, destination charging stations, and more. It is to be noted that the company is offering complimentary portable and home chargers with the purchase of the all-new Ora Good Cat.
