Meet the world’s first electric Rolls Royce Phantom

KUALA LUMPUR: Rolls-Royce has long talked about its wish to produce a battery-electric vehicle, but an aftermarket supplier took the lead in electrifying Rolls-Royce cars. The leading creator of electric classic cars, Lunaz, has transformed a 1961 Rolls-Royce Phantom V into a near-silent EV. The U.K.-based company already has Jaguar and Bentley electrified classic cars in its portfolio.

The 1961 Rolls-Royce Phantom V has undergone the Lunaz reengineering process, which comprises ground-up restoration and the incorporation of the brand’s proprietary electric powertrain and a full suite of software and hardware upgrades. 

In place of a 6.23-litre V8 engine, this Phantom will have a proprietary electric drive system powered by a 120 kWh battery, that according to Lunaz, is the world’s largest electric battery. At the moment, there is no information about how fast this Phantom will be able to go, but EV specialist said the car is capable of running 300 miles on a single charge. 

Apart from Phantom, Lunaz will also electrify the 1956 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud in different body styles, including four-door limousine, two-door coupé, and drophead coupe. Though, It will have a smaller 80 kWh battery pack, but as per company, its range is about the same. Every Rolls Royce by Lunaz is equipped with the capability for both rapid charging and home charging.

Produced in only 30 units each, these two models will be meticulously restored and modernized, getting some additional equipment like a modern infotainment system with WiFi, Bluetooth, and sat-nav, new air conditioning, and screens integrated into the seats for rear passengers. Each car also receives the wood finishes and rose gold inlays. The process of creating these cars includes 3D digital drawings and bespoke designs to suit each client.

These electric Rolls-Royce models by Lunaz will be available in every global market. Prices for an electric Rolls-Royce Phantom starts at £500,000 (RM 2,736,816) not including local taxes, while Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud electric starts at £350,000 (RM 1,916,022).

The company is already accepting orders from its existing client base and some of the world’s most celebrated and influential customers.
