Chery Malaysia’s official grand launch event on July 6th

KUALA LUMPUR: It was nearly a year ago when Chery expressed its intention to re-enter the Malaysian market and now we have a date and official invite in hand. The latter spills out key information about the much-anticipated event.

Chery’s debut date for the local market is July 6th, 2023. The news was previously announced by the automaker via a Facebook post and now the official invite has further sealed the date, time, and venue.

Accompanying the brand launch will be the launch and product presentation of two models - the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro. Thus forming “Phase One” of Chery Malaysia’s local market plan.

A little about the Chery Omoda 5 & Tiggo 8 Pro -

The upcoming Chery Omoda 5 hails from the B-segment crossover and will therefore compete with the likes of the Toyota Corolla Cross, Proton X50, and Honda HR-V. However, the upcoming Chery will give a good fight thanks to its stunning design and extensive tech package.

As for its powertrain, under Omoda 5’s hood lies a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four engine making a maximum power of 194 hp and a peak torque of 290 Nm. The future also entails a fully electric variant.

The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, on the other hand, is based on the China-spec new Tiggo 8 Pro Max but with revised styling and a more extensive specs kit. A plug-in hybrid trim is also scheduled to arrive later this year.

Both cars will be covered by a 10-year, 1,000,000 km warranty for powertrain components and will be locally assembled. Chery recently announced its partnership with Inokom and the good news is, the production work is already in place.

Also, the Chinese automaker has planned a “user-centric" aftersales network for Malaysia. It would consist of over 70 outlets nationwide. At the time of launch, Chrey Malaysia will have ‘no fewer than 30’ outlets running across the country.
