How is Chery Malaysia supporting victims of the Putra Heights gas explosion?
Chery Malaysia donated RM50,000 to the Putra Heights Mosque, which is sheltering around 80 affected families, to help cover rising utility and operational costs. What kind of additional support is Chery Malaysia providing to affected families?
Chery is loaning out 25 vehicles under a one-month temporary car loan programme, along with RM100 in fuel assistance for each recipient, to help families with daily transportation needs. The contribution is part of the company’s broader efforts to support the local community in the wake of the incident.
Since the explosion, which forced dozens of families to evacuate their homes, the mosque has become a crucial shelter for roughly 80 families.

With the building’s resources stretched thin, the cost of utilities and daily necessities has significantly increased. Chery’s donation is intended to ease the financial strain on the mosque as it continues to provide food, shelter, and support to those affected.

The donation was officially handed over during a brief ceremony at the mosque, where Abdul Hadi Hidzan, the mosque manager, received the cheque from Chery Corporate Malaysia Vice President Cheng Nam Weng and Executive Vice President Leo Chen.
Also present at the event were several key figures from the state and federal government: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Minister of Digital YB Gobind Singh Deo, and Selangor State Exco for Investment, Trade and Mobility YB Ng Sze Han.

In addition to the financial assistance, Chery Malaysia also launched a temporary vehicle loan programme to help affected residents regain a sense of normalcy.
At the same event, Chery handed over the first batch of 25 vehicles under this initiative, with more scheduled to be delivered early next week.
The one-month loan scheme is aimed at providing mobility to families who lost access to their own vehicles due to the incident. For many, this means being able to commute to work, attend medical appointments, run daily errands, or send their children to school. To help ease the burden further, Chery has also provided RM100 in fuel support for each recipient.

The vehicle loan programme is being carried out in collaboration with the Selangor state government, including the offices of the Menteri Besar and the State Exco for Investment, Trade and Mobility, as well as local authorities overseeing the relief efforts on the ground.
Chery Malaysia’s involvement is part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts. While the company may be better known for selling vehicles, initiatives like this show a willingness to contribute beyond the showroom floor—especially in times when communities need urgent help.
