Chery dispatches showroom units of Omado 5 & Tiggo 8 Pro for Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The first consignment of Chery cars including the Omado 5 and Tigoo 8 Pro are on their way to Malaysia, all the way from China. While in the future, the brand plans to offer locally assembled (CKD) in Malaysia, for now, customers will have to do with fully-imported units.

The news was confirmed by Chery and the automaker has also shared images of the ceremony via its social media channels. Here the officials can be seen at a port with the event “Delivery Ceremony of the initial collection of Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro to Chery Malaysia” in procession.

For now, Chery is shipping two units of each, the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro to Malaysia. However, the automaker has not given out the total number of cars it will ship to the local market.

Prior to this, we saw the two Chery cars making an appearance at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023.

The Chery Omoda 5 is a futuristic-looking 5-seater SUV that will be offered in two powertrain options - a 154 hp/230 Nm 1.5-litre turbo unit and a 194hp/290 Nm 1.6-litre turbo mill. In the future, a fully-electric version is also planned for the local market.

The Tiggo 8 Pro, on the other hand, is a sports utility vehicle that will be powered by a 2.0-liter inline-four turbo engine making 250 hp and 390 Nm of torque. The drive is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed DTC. In the future, the lineup will include a plug-in hybrid version which will consist of a 1.5-litre turbo unit and two e-motors; together making 241 hp and 510 Nm.

Chery in Malaysia

The Chinese automaker plans to have 70 showrooms in the country, out of which 30 are currently undergoing renovation.

As for the local assembly of its cars, the brand has appointed Inokom as its partner. The operation by the same is expected to begin by next month.
