Check out the Mazda 2 facelift, gets a new design and driving aids
KUALA LUMPUR: Covers are finally off the Mazda 2 facelift and it’s a significant improvement over the ongoing hatch. Technically speaking, it is Mazda’s B-segment model second update, and as can be seen in the images, it’s a comprehensive rework.
The facelift Mazda 2 will first go on sale in its homeland, Japan starting 12th September 2019. When looked closely, its front profile resembles that of the recently facelifted Mazda 6. Also, at the grille now gets thick chrome surrounds that starts from under the headlight creating a neat look.
The LED headlamps are now sharper and slimmer than before. It is to be noted that this is for the first time Mazda 2 gets adaptive LED headlights as an optional feature, it uses 20 individually controlled diode arrays. The LED daytime running lights are ring-shaped and located around the projector units. Adding to the front look are chrome filters, and slim lower air intakes both derived from elder siblings. Speaking of chrome, the rear also features a sleek strip. Further, the taillight gets new graphics. The car stands on new 16-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels.
On the inside, the changes are not just limited to the new color and trim options. The Mazda Connect information system now supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Besides, the company has improved the hatchback’s sound insulation making the cabin quieter than before.
Taking clues from the new SkyActiv-Vehicle Architecture, the seats provide better posture and a sense of connection with the vehicle. A smoother ride is on the cards with revised suspension; further, there is the new G-Vectoring Control Plus with braking intervention.
As for the changes on the safety front, Lane Assist System is now optional, and Mazda Radar Cruise Control is paired with stop and go function. The hatch still lacks electric handbrakes, meaning the driver still need to press the brake at a red light.
The Japanese-spec model will be powered by a 1.3-litre SkyActiv-G petrol mill making 93 PS and 123 Nm along with a 1.5-litre SkyActiv-D turbodiesel churning 105 Ps and 250 Nm.
