“The one-make format of the Vios Challenge, the increasing number of younger drivers, and the emphasis we have placed on the GAZOO Racing Young Driver Development Program has certainly been able to make a significant impact on the track. It levels the competition between the younger and more experienced drivers, rewards skill and racecraft, and promotes an even higher quality of racing on the track,” said UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd President Ravindran K.
In the Super Sporting Class, veteran driver Eddie Liew started incredibly and continued to lead the 20-lap race from start to finish. As for the second and third position, the battle was super intense and at the end, Prima Pearl TD Racing Team’s Mitchell Cheah grabbed the second spot with Telagamas Toyota’s Freddie Ang coming in third.
Just like the first category, the Sporting Class also showed a pretty drama with Crestmax Motorsports Bradley Benedict Anthony finally winning the 20-lap race. Panglima City Racing Team’s Kenneth Koh and 23 Motors’ Abdul Miqail got second and third places, respectively.
In the Rookie Class, 18-year-old Sharique Zulqarinain managed to get two podium finishes, first place in Race 2 and a second in Race 1. On the second spot, there was 20-year-old Muizz Musyaffa while taking off the third position was 19- year-old Muhammad Hamdany Abdul Hamid in both races.
The Promotional Class battle saw actor Shukri Yahaya securing victory, with Zizan Razak and Nabil Ahmad as I and II runner ups.
So, that was all about Round 1. UMW Toyota will be back with Round 2 of the Toyota GAZOO Racing Festival and Vios Challenge race series in June. We hope the upcoming round will have an audience in-person, unlike the previous two seasons of the event.
