BYD Seal EV to land on Malaysian shores in Q1 2024
KUALA LUMPUR: At its first-anniversary celebration, BYD has not only rolled out the Atto 3 Anniversary Limited Edition and special promotional offers but also previewed its upcoming electric car, the Seal. It is a four-door coupe-styled sedan that will rival the likes of the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4 in the local market.

The BYD Seal EV is expected to hit the Malaysian market in the first quarter of 2024.The BYD Seal is based on the brand’s e-platform 3.0 and features an 800V electrical architecture platform. Against the measuring tape, it measures 4,800 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,460 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 2,920 mm. With a boot storage capacity of 400 litres, the EV also boasts a front storage of 53 litres.
BYD SD Motors Malaysia is likely to offer the EV in three variants identical to the ones offered in our neighbouring markets such as Singapore and Thailand. The variants are - Dynamic RWD, Premium RWD, and AWD Performance.
The Dynamic RWD variant is powered by a single electric motor delivering up to 204 PS of maximum power and 310 Nm of peak torque. Feeding the motor is a 61.4 kWh LFP Blade battery providing an impressive range of up to 460 km. The Premium RWD, on the other hand, comes with a more robust 313 PS/360 Nm rear-mounted motor and a larger 82.5 kWh LFP battery, that lets the EV cruise up to 570 km on a single charge.
Sitting at the top of the lineup, the AWD Performance runs on a dual-motor setup tuned to generate 530 PS and 670 Nm. It comes mated to the same 82.5 kWh battery available on the mid-spec trim, however, here the customers get a bit lesser range of 520 km due to a bump in performance.
In terms of features, the upcoming BYD Seal is likely to get LED headlights, 18-or 19-inch wheels, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a head-up display, 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated power-adjustable front seats, heated steering wheel, and a full suite of advanced safety technology.
About the BYD Seal price in Malaysia, no information is yet available, however, if we look towards neighbouring countries for reference, the price of the EV begins at THB 1,325,000 (RM 174,546) in Thailand and SGD 242,888 (RM 847,829) in Singapore.
The BYD Seal EV is expected to hit the Malaysian market in the first quarter of 2024.
