BMW Malaysia launches two new 5 Series models

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Malaysia has launched not one but two new 5 Series models, both of which are locally assembled - the 2021 BMW 530e M Sport and the BMW 530i M Sport. So, now customers can choose between a petrol and plug-in hybrid 5 Series model.

What do the two 5 Series models have in common?

Both the 530e M Sport and 530i M Sport benefit from the automaker’s M Aerodynamic package that includes a massive kidney grille and sleek headlamps with new DRLs. The two also benefit from high-beam assistants with automatic switching features. Furthermore, they feature redesigned front and rear bumper, large air intakes, double-sided trapezoidal tailpipe, and new BMW L-shaped tail lights. They ride on new 19-inch M light-alloy Y-spoke 845 M Bi-colour Jet Black wheels.

The two 5 Series models even share the same brake and suspension setup. It includes an Adaptive Suspension, M Sport brake with blue M Sport callipers.

2021 BMW 530i M Sport

As for the differences, the 530e M Sport gets Adaptive LED headlights, BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line frames. The 530i M Sport model, on the other hand, is fitted with the BMW Laserlight and BMW Individual Exterior Line Aluminium Satinated.

What powers the new 530e M Sport and 530i M Sport?

Both the 5 Series models are powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder BMW Twin-turbo engine making a maximum power of 252 hp and a peak torque of 350 Nm. Now, since the 530i M Sport model is a plug-in hybrid unit, it features a BMW eDrive electric motor that increases the output to 292 hp and 420 Nm.

The transmission unit that does duty on both the petrol and PHEV model is an 8-speed Steptronic Sport gearbox.

On the performance front, the 530e M Sport and 530i M Sport models can attain a top speed of 235 kmph and 250 kmph, respectively.

New BMW 5 Series specs

Without having to use even a single drop of fuel, the 530i M Sport can travel up to 67 km. As for its charging details, using the BMW i Wallbox a full charge can be achieved in 3 hours 35
minutes. The charging time increases to six hours if using a conventional main socket.

In pure electric mode, the PHEV can be driven up to 110 kmph and with MAX eDrive on the driver can take it up to 140 kmph.

Both cars come blessed with an M leather steering wheel, M sport seats wrapped in Dakota upholstery along with BMW Individual anthracite headliner, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, aluminium rhombicle cabin finish, and BMW Live Cockpit Professional with BMW’s OS7. Over and above these goodies, the 530i M Sport mode gets an electrical glass roof.

BMW has enabled both the new 5 Series models with amazing safety features like - Anti Lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), and Cornering Brake Control (CBC).

The Driver Assistance System, on the other hand, includes - Lane Departure and Lane Change Warning, rear collision prevention, front collision alert with brake intervention, cross-traffic warning, and Parking Assistant Plus with a surround-view camera.

The 530i M Sport also gets the Active Cruise Control system with Stop&Go function.

New BMW 5 Series features

The locally-assembled 530e M Sport and 530i M Sport price tag reads RM 317,534 and RM 368,122, respectively (on-road without insurance). The price includes SST exemption along with a 2-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.

Post June 30, 2021, the customers won’t enjoy SST exemption and the prices will hike to RM 323,980 and RM 378,980, respectively.
