BMW Malaysia launches its flagship SUV, the BMW X7

KUALA LUMPUR: It was only three days back when BMW Malaysia opened the bookings for its flagship SUV, the X7. And now the car is here in Malaysia, as the German automaker has officially launched it. The SUV now sits on top of the X lineup, thus, showing a step-down to “The Boss”, aka, the X5.

In the Malaysia market, the BMW X7 will compete with the likes of Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and Lexus LX. With a price tag of RM 888,000 (on-the-road without insurance), the G07 X7 rests on the modified G05 X5 platform and offer the richness of the 7 Series.

On the dimension front, the X7 measures 5,151 in length, 2,000 mm in width, and 1,805 mm in height, that’s exactly 229 mm long and 60 mm tall then the soon to launch BMW X5. The wheelbase on this three-row SUV reads 3,105 mm, which is 130 mm more than that on the X5.

While the X5 can only accommodate only five, the X7 can comfortably fit seven adults in its three-row cabin arrangement. However, it is to be noted that for the first time, the German automaker has introduced a six-seater option of its SUV with two individual middle seats. In Malaysia, we’ll only have the standard three-row model.

The base petrol model of the X7 is powered by a 3.0-litre inline-six turbo mill that produces 340 PS of maximum power along with a peak torque of 450 Nm from 1,500 to 5,200 rpm. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox along with a rear-biased xDrive all-wheel-drive system. On the performance front, the SUV can cover 0 to 100 kmph run in 6.1 seconds and has a top speed of 245 kmph.

The standard styling kit of the SUV includes aluminium running boards and roof rails, adaptive BMW Laserlight, 21-inch Y-spoke two-tone alloys, a Sky Lounge panorama glass roof, BMW Display Key, LED fog lamps, anti-dazzle wing, LED fog lamps, rear view mirror, and more.

Open the gates, and a Vernasca leather-wrapped cabin will greet you along with a Sensatec synthetic leather covered dashboard, Fineline Stripe wood trim, a head-up display, and surround view camera. Comfort kit includes a classy soft close function for the door, ventilated front seats, Comfort Access with hands-free tailgate opening, auto air-con with five-zone control, and electric blinds for the rear side windows.

Taking care of the connectivity the BMW X7 features is BMW Live Cockpit Professional with a 12.3-inch instrument panel, BMW Connected Package Professional, wireless charging, BMW Navigation system Professional with a 12.3-inch touch-screen, and Gesture Control.

BMW is offering the X7 SUV in seven color options - Vermont Bronze, Mineral White, Terra Brown, Black Sapphire, Phytonic Blue, Artic Grey, and Sophisto Grey.
