Auto Shanghai 2023: Hyundai Elantra N facelift unveiled

KUALA LUMPUR: The ongoing Auto Shanghai 2023 auto show is slowly and steadily becoming the staging place for several amazing vehicles. Part of the long list is the Honda e:NS2 Prototype, Honda e:NP2 Prototype, e:N SUV, 2023 Polestar 4 EV, all-electric Chery Omoda 5 EV, VW ID 7, and many more.

Part of the list is now the new Hyundai Elantra N facelift which we’ll be discussing in detail here. It joins the brand line-up which consists of the all-new Kona, Grandeur, Sonata facelift, Stargazer, and Staria.

New Hyundai Elantra N facelift: Key highlights

• The car’s debut marks the ‘N’ brands entry into the Chinese market and is based on the new Elantra standard model which was launched in Korea in March 2023
• At the front, it features an LED light bar treatment along with a lower stance with enlarged black trim and exterior color garnish
• The car features a bolder bumper design that adds to its bold look
• A black anodized Hyundai emblem is seen at the front and back which helps identify the N brand

• N-specific red stripe can be seen running all around the new Hyundai, including the front & rear bumper, and side sill moldings
• The rear features an enlarged black bumper and a boat tail which enhances its aerodynamics
• Powering the new Elantra facelift is a 2.0-litre inline-4 turbocharged unit generating a maximum power of 276 hp along with a peak torque of 392 Nm
• The drive is sent to the front wheels via an 8-speed ‘N’ wet dual-clutch transmission

In other news, Hyundai plans to introduce the Ioniq 5 N in China on July 5, 2023. “With all three of N brand’s core driving characteristics, Ioniq 5 N marks the beginning of a new era of high-performance electrification, and we are confident that it will set a new benchmark for sustainable high performance,” said Wartenberg.

Hyundai in Malaysia

In the local market, Hyundai offers the Elantra sedan in the sole SmartStream G 1.6L Premium variant. Priced at RM 168,888, the car is powered by a 123 hp/154 Nm 1.6-litre engine paired with the company’s iVT transmission.
