All-new 5-door Mini Cooper sees the light of day
KUALA LUMPUR: BMW-owned Mini has finally pulled the wraps off the five-door version of the next-gen Cooper that debuted last year. The latest model adds practicality while retaining the visual appeal and driving experience of its three-door counterpart. Notably, the 5-Copper is currently offered with ICE drivetrains only.

The all-electric 5-door Mini Cooper is likely to arrive later, with the Aceman EV expected to take its place. The new Mini Cooper features the "Charismatic Simplicity" design language, combining the brand's traditional values with advanced technology. It boasts a compact silhouette with a small bonnet, short overhangs, larger wheels, and a long wheelbase.
The vehicle measures 4,036 mm in length, 1,744 mm in width, and 1,464 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 2567 mm. Compared to the 3-door model, it is 172 mm longer and has a 72 mm long wheelbase. The boot capacity has also increased to 923 litres (with the second row folded), which is 123 litres more than the 3-door model.
Apart from bigger dimensions and an additional set of doors, the two models look almost identical. Key highlights include - an octagonal front grille, LED headlights with adjustable daytime running light elements, flush-fitting LED tail lights, and 16- to 18-inch wheels. Like its 3-door counterpart, it is also offered in four styling trims - Essential, Classic, Favoured, and JCW (John Cooper Works).
The interior also sports a similar look, with a 9.4-inch circular OLED touchscreen powered by the brand’s latest Operating System 9. It is mated to satellite navigation, 7 immersive “MINI Experience Modes,” and a 'Hey Mini' voice assistant. The car does not feature a conventional instrument display but rather a head-up display; the speed is shown on the head unit.
The central console has updated toggle switches, a parking brake, a gear selector, and start/stop buttons. It offers more space with an open storage compartment and wireless charging area.
Mini offers the 5-door Cooper with two powertrain options: a 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder. The former produces a maximum power of 156 hp and a peak torque of 230 Nm, enabling the British hatchback to run from zero to 100 kmph in 8.2 seconds and attain a top speed of 225 kmph.
On the other hand, the more powerful engine is tuned to deliver 201 hp and 300 Nm of torque. It completes the century sprint in 6.8 seconds and hits an electronically-limited speed of 242 kmph.
The all-new 5-door Mini Cooper will be produced this July, and deliveries to European markets are expected to begin in September.
