KUALA LUMPUR: It was only last year in October that Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia launched the five-door Defender 110. And now expanding the Defender lineup further, JLRM has announced the availability of the 2022 Defender 90.

Variants & Price

The Malaysia-spec Defender 90 is offered in two variant options, names and prices of which are mentioned in the table below.

Defender 90 P300	RM 838,800
Defender 90 P400	RM 1,098,800

Note the prices exclude insurance, tax, and registration. It however includes a five-year warranty, five years of free service and three years of roadside assistance.

Powertrain configuration

Like the Defender 110, the Defender 90 is offered in two engine options. Powering the P300 variant is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine making a maximum power of 300 PS along with a peak torque of 400 Nm from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm.

The Defender 90 P400 model, on the other hand, gets a 3.0-litre inline-six unit generating a max power of 400 PS and 550 Nm of peak torque from 2,000 to 5,000 rpm. Being a mild-hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV), the P400 comes with a 48-volt electric supercharger, a 48-volt lithium-ion battery, and a belt-integrated starter motor.

Both the Defender 90 variants, the P300 and P400 engines are mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission that sends drive to the wheels.

Capabilities

The Defender name is synonymous with off-road capabilities and so like the Defender 110, the new Defender 90 promises the same old go-anywhere ability. Here are a few inclusions that enable the car to have amazing adventures.

• 900 mm of maximum wading depth
• Inclusion of Twin-speed transfer box
• Electronic air suspension with adjustable height (40 mm below the normal ride and 75 mm of extended height)
• 70 mm ride height lift for extreme off-roading
• Six drive modes (Normal, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud & Ruts, Rock Crawl, Sand, and Wade)
• Adaptive Dynamics with adaptive dampers (elevates movements up to 500 times per sec)

Features

Built on Land Rover’s latest Electronic Vehicle Architecture, EVA 2.0, the Defender 90 supports the new Pivi Pro infotainment system along with over-the-air (OTA) software updates.
Also, part of the kit is a 3D surround camera with 360-degree visibility.
