Ahead of Malaysia, Chery Omoda E5 EV launched in Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR: The all-electric version of the Chery Omoda 5, the Omoda E5 is earmarked to launch in the first quarter of 2024 in Malaysia. Well ahead of that, the Chinese electric SUV made its way to Indonesia, making it the first ASEAN market to welcome the EV.

The official distributor of Chery cars in Indonesia, PT Chery Sales Indonesia, retails the Omoda E5 at a price of IDR 498,800,000 (approx RM 151k). However, the special introductory price for the first 1,000 consumers is IDR 488,800,000 (approx RM 148k).

Not only that, but the first thousand Chery Omoda E5 buyers will also get a Lifetime Warranty for Electric Motor/Power Battery and insurance for one year. Apart from these extra benefits, customers can also enjoy an 8-year/180,000 Km battery warranty, a 6-year/160,000 vehicle guarantee, free service and spare parts costs for five years/ 75,000 Km, a free V2L Charger, 7 kW AC Charger, and Portable Charger.

The EV runs on a Permanent Magnet Synchronous motor producing a maximum power of 204 PS and a peak torque of 340 Nm. Feeding the motor is a 61.06 kWh battery pack, offering a WLTP-claimed driving range of 430 km. The battery supports both AC and DC charging; the latter can juice it up from 30% to 80% in less than 30 minutes.

Design-wise, the Omoda E5 looks very similar to its ICE-powered counterpart with a few EV-specific tweaks including a closed-off panel in place of the front grille, unique bumpers with automatic cooling shutters, distinctive aerodynamic-focused wheels, and a charging port at the front.

The interior is equipped with several advanced bits, including a 24.6-inch Super Large curved screen, 50W wireless smartphone charging, a Sony audio system with eight speakers, dual-zone automatic air-conditioning, wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, and a 540-degree HD Panoramic camera.

As for safety, the EV comes packed with an “ADAS 2.5” advanced driver assistance kit, comprising a total of 17 driver-assistance systems.

The Chery Omoda E5 rivals the likes of the BYD Atto 3 and GWM Ora Good Cat.
