7th-gen Hyundai Elantra launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai Malaysia today officially launched the 7th-gen Elantra that comes off as a new trendsetter in the segment. With an introductory price of RM 158,888, Hyundai's latest sedan has a lot to offer on the performance, features, and design front.

On the new Elantra's launch, Mr Low Yuan Lung, Managing Director of Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors said, “The new Elantra is a game-changer, not just in its looks but the entire package that comes with it. Its sporty-elegant look that comes with a high-tech premium interior and Hyundai’s Smartsense features make it an unbeatable C-segment car in its class."

Powering the Elantra is a Smartstream G1.6 MPi petrol mill that pumps out a maximum power of 123 PS at 6,300 rpm along with a peak torque of 154 Nm at 4,500 rpm. The highlight here is the presence of the intelligent transmission (IVT), first of its kind to be fitted in a Hyundai model. The IVT is known for its class-leading performance and fuel economy. Adding to Elantra's performance quotient are the four drive modes - Smart, Comfort, Eco, and Sport.

We have been informed by the company officials that the new Elantra is based on the company's Sensuous Sportiness design concept. The highlights of which are clearly seen via the clever line patterns running across its body and geometric crystal cut.

Since the 7th gen Elantra sits on the K3 vehicle platform it benefits from a spacious interior (compared to the previous model). It's now around 56 mm lengthier, and 25 mm wider than before. The wheelbase has also gone up by almost 20 mm. On paper, these numbers might seem marginal but in reality, have transformed the shape of the car without encroaching the interior dimensions. Even the boot space of over 470-litre makes it a great commuter for carrying big, bulky items.

Enough about the improved performance and cabin space, let's now indulge in Elantra’s technical upgrades. Its cocoon-like interior gives an aeroplane cockpit-like feel and is blessed with several advanced features like a large interface consisting of a 10.25-inch Supervision TFT and an 8-inch floating display, an 8-inch infotainment display, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and multi-connection Bluetooth support.

Likewise, its safety kit is also packed with an amazing set of active and passive features including the Hyundai Smartsense package. Part of the kit are 6 airbags, Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA) with Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and Lane Following Assist (LFA), Driver Attention Warning, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, to name a few.

The 7th-gen Hyundai Elantra is offered in four exterior colour tones and is up for viewing at all the company authorised showrooms. Also part of the package is a five-year or 30,000 km warranty.
