KUALA LUMPUR: After Singapore, the all-new ninth-gen Toyota Camry has made its way to the Australian market. Along with introducing the new model, Toyota Australia has also announced the ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program) safety rating of the upgraded D-Segment sedan.

    In the Adult Occupant Protection category, the sedan grabbed a record-high score of 95%, placing it ahead of other models in this category. The sedan received maximum points in side impact, oblique pole, whiplash, and far-side tests. It exhibited a lower risk to occupants from oncoming vehicles in the ‘compatibility’ assessment. In frontal tests, the upgraded Toyota model excelled in head and leg protection, although chest protection was rated as adequate.

    In the Child Occupant Protection category, the car demonstrated good head protection in frontal and side-impact tests. The neck and chest protection for the 10-year-old dummy was adequate. The sedan also performed well in the Vulnerable Road User Protection category with the AEB system effectively avoiding or reducing collisions in forward tests.

    The 2025 Toyota Camry scored full points for its lane support system (LSS) and features a camera-based Speed Assist that can recognize curves and adjust speed during cruise control.

    If we talk about the safety features, the new Camry comes packed with dual frontal, side chest-protecting, side head-protecting airbags, and a driver knee airbag. There is also a centre airbag offering an extra layer of safety to front seat occupants in case of side impact crashes.

    In terms of advanced driver-assistance bits, the sedan features Autonomous emergency braking (Car-to-Car, Vulnerable Road User, and Junction Assist), lane support system, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, emergency lane keeping, advanced speed assistance system as standard across all variants.

    Globally unveiled in November last year, the ninth-gen Toyota Camry features heavily updated bodywork and a fresh interior. Designed by CALTY’s Newport Beach, California, and Ann Arbor, Michigan studios, it features a new hammerhead front fascia with slim LED headlights. The interior is loaded with tons of hi-tech niceties such as a 12.3-inch infotainment unit, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a wireless smartphone charger, digital rear-view mirror, heated steering wheel, and more.

    The sedan is offered only in a hybrid drivetrain in Australia, comprising a 2.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine producing 188 PS of maximum power and 221 Nm of peak torque and a permanent magnet synchronous motor good for making 136 PS and 208 Nm. The combined system output is rated at 231 PS, which is sent to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission.

    The 2025 Toyota Camry price in Australia begins at AUD 39,990 (RM 115k) and goes all the way up to AUD 53,990 (RM 156k).

    Closer to home, the new Toyota Camry is anticipated to launch in Malaysia soon.
