2024 MINI Countryman C debuts with a mild-hybrid setup

KUALA LUMPUR: MINI has expanded the lineup of the third-gen Countryman with the introduction of a new variant, the 2024 MINI Countryman C. The new trim sits at the bottom of the range and is powered by a mild-hybrid setup.

“As an entry-level model, the MINI Countryman C combines typical MINI features such as agility and driving pleasure with generous standard equipment,” says Stefanie Wurst, head of the MINI brand.

The mild-hybrid powertrain comprises a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine producing a maximum power of 170 PS and a peak torque of 280 Nm and an electric motor that supports it during accelerations with 19 PS of electric drive. The power is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, enabling the car to run from zero to 100 kmph in 8.3 seconds and clock a top speed of 212 kmph. 

According to the automaker, the integrated mild hybrid technology recovers braking energy and reduces the fuel consumption and emissions of the MINI Countryman C. The fuel consumption is rated at 6.5-6.1 litres per 100 km while the combined CO2 emissions are 146-138 grams per km (according to WLTP).

In terms of design, the new Countryman features a redesigned octagonal front grille, new LED headlights, an upright silhouette, Piano Black roof rails, and distinctive tail lights. MINI offers the car in four trim levels - Essential, Classic, Favoured, and JCW. The design of the new C-pillar element changes with the selected trim. Also, different paint, roof colours, and various interior finishes are available for each trim. The wheel sizes range from 17 to 21 inches.

True to MINI's iconic design, the interior is kitted with a centrally mounted OLED infotainment system powered by MINI Operating System 9. This system supports voice commands through the Intelligent Personal Assistant, represented visually by 'Spike' and MINI Experience Modes. The cabin also features sports seats as standard, adorned with patterned multi-tone textiles. Also part of the kit is a panoramic glass roof.

A noteworthy addition is the Driving Assistant Plus in the new MINI Countryman C, which offers partially automated Level 2 driving on motorway-like routes. It enables the driver to take his hands off the steering wheel up to a speed of 60 kmph, contingent upon continuous monitoring and readiness to intervene.
