2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is finally out in the open; here’s all you need to know
KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz has finally unveiled the sixth-gen E-Class. This time around the automaker has taken a more contemporary take on the traditional luxury saloon.
Planned to go on sale in September this year, the new four-door E-Class is the brand’s latest dedicated ICE model before it goes 100% electric.
Let’s get to know the all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class in detail -
Variant
The all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been introduced in six variant options in total - 3 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models and 3 mild-hybrid (MHEV) models. The automaker has not announced any AMG model yet.
The six variants are -
- E 300 e (PHEV)
- E 300 e 4MATIC (PHEV)
- E 400 e 4MATIC (PHEV)
- E 220 d (MHEV)
- E 220 d 4MATIC (MHEV)
- E 200 (MHEV)

Compared to the previous-gen model, the E-Class now features a 20 mm longer wheelbase that contributes to its expanded cabin, adding to the passenger's comfort.
Exterior
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class rightfully bridges the gap between the automaker's internal combustion engine and fully electric EQ models. The car comes packed with several eye-catching bits that are both attractive and functional. A few key highlights being
- 3D-designed radiator grille with a progressive or classic look
- Black panel connecting the grille and lighting units
- The optional illuminated radiator grille
- Optional rear-wheel steering (thanks to the 22 mm longer wheelbase)
- Very aerodynamic with a drag coefficient of 0.23
The rear wheel steering that comes with the longer wheelbase reduces the car’s turning radius by up to 900 mm. For instance, for the all-wheel drive variant, the turning radius is reduced from 12.0 m to 11.1 m, and for the rear-wheel drive variants it has gone from 11.6 m to 10.8 m.
Cabin
The E-Class benefits from several advanced features including -
- Digital Vehicle Key for iPhone and Apple Watch (shared by 16 people at a time)
- New Superscreen
- An optional screen with Intelligent blocking for the front passenger
- Latest MBUX system with Tiktok, Zoom, Angry Birds, Vivaldi, and
- Webex support
- Conference camera on the dashboard
- Newly designed icons for the MBUX system
- Optional new Active Ambient lighting system with Sound Visualisation
- Optional Burmester 4D surround sound system
- Open-pore wood in dark ash backlit by the Mercedes-Benz pattern
- Silver-colored metal-mix material
- MANUFAKTUR piano lacquer black flowing lines
Powertrain
As mentioned, the all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in six variant options - 3 MHEV and 3 PHEV.
E 220 d & E 220 d 4MATIC: These two are powered by a 1,993 cc inline-4 turbo diesel engine making a maximum power of 197 hp along with a peak torque of 440 Nm (23 hp and 203 Nm of ISG additional output).
E 200: Powering it is an inline-4 turbo 1,999 cc unit making 204 hp and 320 Nm of torque (23 hp and 203 Nm of ISG additional output).
In both these cases, the drive is sent to the wheels via a 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox.
E 300 e & E 300 e 4MATIC: These two are powered by a 1,999 cc inline-4 turbo diesel turbo engine making a maximum power of 204 hp along with a peak torque of 320 Nm (95 hp and 440 Nm of ISG additional output). The system power and torque figure output stands at 230 hp and 550 Nm.
E 400 e 4MATIC: This variant is powered by a 1,999 cc inline-4 turbo diesel turbo engine making a maximum power of 252 hp along with a peak torque of 400 Nm (95 hp and 440 Nm of ISG additional output). The system power and torque figure output stands at 280 hp and 650 Nm.
In both these cases, the drive is sent to the wheels via a 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox.

Production
The new E-Class will be manufactured at the brand’s Sindelfingen plant in Germany. The long-wheelbase version of the model will also be built alongside.
