It is a known fact that Malaysia’s EV market is growing exponentially with the entry of new players every other day. Waiting in line next is the Chery Omoda E5 which according to the Chinese automaker will be launched in March 2024.

Chery Malaysia has mentioned that the EV version of the Omoda 5, the Omoda E5 was the lead car for the Chery Eco Run event that saw massive participation.

2024 Chery Omoda E5: Powertrain configuration

The Chinese EV features a front-mounted electric motor that pumps out a maximum power of 204 PS along with a peak torque of 340 Nm. The motor is powered by a Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a capacity of 61 kWh.

The above-mentioned power setup allows the Chinese EV to complete a century sprint in just 7.6 seconds and attain a top speed of 172 kmph.

The company claims a power consumption of 14.5 kWh/100 km and with a full charge, the EV delivers 430 km of range (WLTP standard).

2024 Chery Omoda E5: Charging

The upcoming Omoda E5 supports AC charging at 9.9 kW and DC fast charging of up to 80 kW. The latter takes the battery from 30 to 80 percent of charge in just 30 minutes.

The car also features a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system that allows the car to act like a mobile power bank which delivers up to 3.3 kW to power electrical devices and appliances.

The upcoming Chery Omoda E5 features an active grille shutter that opens and closes depending on the car’s aerodynamic requirements and the motor’s temperature.

At present, the petrol-powered Chery Omoda 5 retails from RM108,800 to RM 118,800, and the EV version is expected to have a higher sticker price.

Bottom Line

The Chery Omoda 5 has been open for registration in Malaysia since December 2023 and we can’t wait for the EVs official launch. On arrival, the EV will go up against the likes of BYD Atto 3 Extended Range.
