2023 Toyota Vios bookings open in Malaysia, est. price announced
KUALA LUMPUR: The mysterious Defy car teased by UMW Toyota earlier this week is finally out in the open. And, as expected, it is none other than the all-new fourth-gen Toyota Vios. The automaker has unveiled a few specifications and estimated pricing of the updated sedan along with opening its ordering books.

While the official website mentions the price for the base variant only, the details shared by the dealers reveal that the sedan will be offered in two variants - E and G, tentatively priced at RM 90,000 and RM 96,000.

- The sedan is based on a new platform, called DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) and features a completely different new look with restyled lighting units and new 17-inch alloy wheels
- Adding to the improvements are wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity for the 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rear air vents, an electronic parking brake with auto brake hold, and three drive modes - Power, Eco, and Normal
- The safety kit benefits from several advanced features such as lane departure prevention, lane departure warning, pre-collision system, lane keeping control, front departure alert, adaptive cruise control, auto high beam, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert
- It is offered in five colour choices - Silver Metallic, Spicy Scarlet SE, Nebula Blue, Attitude Black, and Platinum White Pearl
While the automaker is yet to reveal the sedan’s mechanical specs, it is likely to borrow the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine from the Indo-spec model, which churns out a maximum power of 106 hp and a peak torque of 138 Nm. As for the transmission, the sedan is expected to get a D-CVT gearbox that we can also find on the Toyota Veloz, new Perodua Alza, and new Perodua Axia.
