2022 Subaru WRX coming to Malaysia; what to expect

There has been a lot of confusion around the arrival of the all-new WRX in Malaysia. However, now things appear to be positive, with the car being recently spotted in the country, which means that the all-new 2022 Subaru WRX launch is on the cards!

So, what do we know about the upcoming 2022 Subaru WRX? Well, nothing for sure; however, the sports sedan has made its debut in the international markets and is expected to be made available in more or less similar specifications with a few market-specific alterations. So, let's check out the all-new 2022 Subaru WRX.

Platform

The new WRX sits on the Subaru Global Platform, which offers enhanced chassis rigidity and a lower centre of gravity height that calls for better handling and comfort.

Design

The new WRX's wide-body style gives the car a sporty, muscular appearance. At the front, the car gets the brand's characteristic hexagonal grille, sleek LED headlights, and a massive front hood scoop. At the rear, the volcanic magma resembling tail lights creates a lasting impression.

On the inside, the WRX continues to exude a sporty vibe thanks to the black interior accented by a carbon fibre pattern and red stitching. Space is not an issue with the WRX, and as per Subaru, it can fit 'your whole life', thanks to its 60:40 split-folding rear seat and spacious 354-litre trunk.

Features

The new Subaru WRX is blessed with several advanced features that make the driver's and passenger's journey relaxed and super comfortable. Part of the 2022 WRX feature kit is - an all-new D-shaped leather-wrapped steering wheel (with multi-functional functions like audio, voice recognition, and EyeSight controls), a prominent touchscreen display (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support), Harman Kardon audio system, Harman Kardon 504-watt amplifier, power-adjustable driver's seat, and new Recaro seats (variant specific).

Engine

Powering the sporty sedan in its latest version is a new 2.4-litre direct-injection turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine. The mill produces a maximum power output of 271 hp at 5,600 rpm and a peak torque of 350 Nm from 2,000 to 5,200 rpm. Enhanced performance and agility are assured by the turbocharger's enlarged capacity and electronically regulated air bypass valves & wastegate.

Depending on the variant, the new WRX engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a new Subaru Performance Automatic gearbox with paddle shifters.

Braking and handling

Adding to the sedan's dynamic characteristics and driving comfort are its 17/18-inch alloy wheels and four-wheel vented disc brakes.

The car gets a retuned suspension that pushes the vehicle to offer razor-sharp handling. Furthermore, upgraded dampers, high-performance tyres, and stiffer chassis assure enhanced cornering, stability, and steering balance.

Safety

The 2022 Subaru WRX benefits from the brand's EyeSight Driver Assist Technology: Automatic Pre-Collision Braking, Automatic Emergency Steering, and Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering.
