2022 Proton Persona now on sale in Malaysia, price starts at RM 45,800

KUALA LUMPUR: After numerous spy shots and teasers, here we have the all-new 2022 Proton Persona in front of us. The national automaker just launched the new sedan alongside the new Iriz. Like the hatchback, the new Persona also gets cosmetic tweaks and the latest features to keep up with the changing times and demands. So, without any further ado, let’s dive into the new 2020 Proton Persona details.

Proton offers the new sedan in three variants - 1.6 Standard, 1.6 Executive, and 1.6 Premium. The Proton Persona price tag for the base trim reads RM 45,800, the mid-spec sedan is priced at RM 50,800 while the top-spec version retails at RM 55,800. The mentioned prices are on-the-road, without insurance, and inclusive of SST exemption.

On the exterior, the new Persona gets a new front grille that features the brand’s latest round logo, giving the sedan a modern appeal. Also new are the front bumper, 16-inch alloy wheels, and black roof finishing. However, the rims are limited to the Executive and Premium trims, while the new roof comes with the latter only. In addition, the top-spec Persona also gets new LED headlamps with auto on/off and follow me home functions.

Hop inside the 2022 Proton Persona and you are greeted by a new 8-inch floating infotainment touchscreen display, which is able to stream online music, navigation, and weather forecast. It gets the smartphone, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi connectivity features. The “Hi PROTON” voice command is also there to control the driver-side window, AC, navigation, calls, and music. However, the online navigation, voice command, new digital AC controls, leatherette seats are limited to the Premium variant only.

The standard interior kit comprises a new armrest with a console box, 6 USB ports, an N95 cabin filter, a standard audio system, an ECO mode switch, and fabric seats. Over these, the Executive trim also gets an intelligent entry system, a push start button, electric door mirrors, and the new head unit.

In terms of safety, the Proton Persona specs sheet comprises the following features

  • Six airbags (four as standard)
  • Electronic stability control
  • Traction control system
  • Anti-lock braking system
  • Reverse camera (Executive and Premium)
  • ISOFIX

As for mechanicals, all the new Proton Persona variants are powered by the ongoing 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder engine that kicks out a maximum power of 109 PS and a peak torque of 150 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a CVT transmission, which is the only available gearbox option now.

With the purchase of the new 2022 Proton Persona, the automaker is offering a 5 year/150,000 km warranty and three free labour services.
