2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e plug-in hybrid launched in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: After releasing a couple of teasers, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has finally pulled the wraps off the new GLC variant, which goes with the name 300e. For the unacquainted, it is a plug-in hybrid model that was introduced in 2019 in the global market and is on sale in Thailand from 2020. Well, it’s better late than never. So, let’s know this electrified GLC in detail, starting with the price.

The locally assembled Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e retails for RM 374,074 (on-the-road, without insurance) in Malaysia. Included in the price is the soon-to-be-expired sales and service tax rebate, post that, it will go up to RM 398,888. The price also includes a 2+2 year unlimited-mileage warranty.
2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e engine and performance
How does this new GLC different from the ongoing trims? Well, the answer lies under the hood where we find an additional electric motor assisting the engine and gearbox for different dynamics.
The setup comprises a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four, petrol mill and a single electric motor. The former delivers a maximum power of 211 hp at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 350 Nm between 1,200 - 4,000 rpm, whereas the electric motor is good for making 122 hp and 440 Nm. Combinedly, the system generates 320 hp and 700 Nm. The transmission duties are completed by a 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic paired with a 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.
Also, part of the mechanical kit is a 13.5 kWh battery that offers an all-electric range of 43 km. It gets charged in 1.5 hours with the help of a 7.4 kW on-board AC charger.
In terms of performance, the electrified coupe runs from standstill to 100 kmph in 5.7 seconds and hits a top speed of 230 kmph. However, the EV mode restricts the max speed to 140 kmph.
2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300e features
The exterior and interior feature kit of the new GLC 300e is almost the same as the existing GLC 300 Coupe 4Matic, with exclusive badging and a charging port as the main differences.
On the exterior, you get the same AMG kit with sporty bumpers, Adaptive Multibeam LED headlights, a radiator grille with silver pins, AMG Line body kit, Panoramic sunroof, and AMG wheels. The latter also features perforated front brakes as an exclusive addition.
Inside, you can find the same AMG flat-bottomed steering wheel, a12.3-inch fully-digital instrument cluster, Artico leather seats, Thermatic dual-zone air-conditioning, ambient lighting, 10.25-inch infotainment unit paired with MBUX OS and a Burmester surround sound system.
As for safety, the German coupe comes packed with several driver-assistance bits, comprising a blind spot monitor, lane keep assist, 360-degree surround view monitor, autonomous emergency braking, Parktronic active parking assist and more.
