2022 Hyundai Elantra N teased ahead of debut

KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai is all set to expand the next-generation Hyundai Elantra lineup by adding a new high-performance N variant to the family. After teasing the camouflaged prototype in September last year, the Korean automaker now released two new photos of the sporty sedan decked up in the N division’s customary shade of Performance Blue. 

One of the two images showcases the side skirts and rear diffuser of the upcoming Hyundai Elantra N. We can also see a distinctive black rear spoiler and large circular tailpipes, which are also available on other Hyundai N models. Another image reveals the large front wheel of the sedan, shod with Michelin Pilot Sport tyre. This looks wider than the one available on the standard Elantra. The red brake calliper and N badging are also visible through the angular wheel.

Till Wartenberg, Vice President of N brand Management & Motorsport sub-division at Hyundai Motor Company, said, "Elantra N is a high-performance sedan that reveals the sportier side of our exceptional all-new Elantra through exciting N brand enhancements."

As for mechanicals, the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N will see a significant departure from the standard as well as Hybrid trims. It is likely to get a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder mill delivering a maximum power output of 275 hp. On the transmission front, we can see a six-speed manual or an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission as options.

The sporty Elantra is also expected to get multiple drive modes and a limited-slip differential. For further performance enhancement, the automaker might bring it with a retuned chassis and hardware offering sportier handling and dynamics.

."We designed it to be a race proven sports car with dynamic driving capabilities and style that performance enthusiasts love. I can’t wait to unveil Elantra N, an outstanding addition to the N brand lineup that offers pulse-pounding performance," Wartenberg added.

So, when is it coming? Well, the Korean automaker has not yet spilled the beans about this, but it does mention that more details will be unveiled "in the coming weeks."
