2022 Hyundai Elantra N hot sedan breaks cover
KUALA LUMPUR: After much teasing and speculation, Hyundai finally pulled the wraps off the all-new Elantra N that takes driving enthusiasts from street to circuit. The hot sedan is a high-performance trim of the new Elantra, unveiled last year. The N tag adds strong, dynamic driving capability and aggressive design touch to the already sporty standard model.
Under the bonnet, the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N is fitted with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine generating a maximum power output of 276 hp and peak torque of 392 Nm. The motor now has a 5 mm bigger turbine wheel and optimized shape and material of the cylinder lock, which improves its performance as well as durability.
As for the transmission, there are two options to choose from, the first is an eight-speed wet DCT and the other is a six-speed MT driving the front wheels.
The spirited performance of the hot sedan is further supported by specialized, high-performance features as standard. These include N Corner Carving Differential, Variable Exhaust Valve System, and Launch Control. On top of that, the DCT models also get N Grin Shift, N Power Shift, and N Track Sense Shift for better driving pleasure.
With N Grin Shift mode, the new Elantra N can go from zero to 100 kmph in just 5.3 seconds and can hit a top speed of 250 kmph,
To harmonize the sedan’s dynamic driving sensibility with its appearance, Hyundai tweaked its styling inside and out. On the exterior, it gets a lip spoiler running across the lower part of the front bumper and an N-exclusive red strip at its bottom and side skirts. At the back, we can spot a prominent N-only wing-type spoiler, rear diffuser, and F1-inspired rear light.
Inside, the specific touches include N-branded elements on the steering wheel, shifter, seats, door scuff panels, and metal pedals, etc. Also part of the kit is an updated infotainment system with N-only UX, a dedicated lap timer, and new seats with reinforced bolsters. Bucket seats with 10 mm lower height are also available as option.
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra N is expected to hit the Korean market first, with sales likely to commence in other markets by the end of this year.
