2021 Volkswagen Arteon R-Line 4MOTION bookings open in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Last year, Volkswagen introduced its flagship model, the Arteon, in the Malaysian market. And now, it heads up to bring its facelift version that goes with the name “Arteon R-Line 4MOTION.” The company’s official distributor, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has just opened its pre-bookings and also detailed its specifications and estimated price.

Let’s first talk about the Volkswagen Arteon R-Line 4MOTION price, the locally-assembled model is likely to cost between RM 245,000 and RM 255,000 at the time of launch. In comparison, the outgoing model was priced at RM 221,065. Well, justifying the price difference is new enhancements, including updated interior and exterior, new technology as well as a new engine. 

On the exterior, the upcoming Arteon carries the new Volkswagen and R logos, and sporty R-Line trimmings that accentuate its athleticism. The front grille gets a new design with a more prominent bumper and full LED headlights. Towards the rear, new LED 3D tail lights with sequential indicators further spruce up the sedan’s sloping fastback design.

Coming to the new Arteon R-Line 4MOTION colours options, the list includes 5 choices - Lapiz Blue, Oryx White, Deep Black, Pyrite Silver, and Manganese Grey.

Inside, the redesigned digital Cockpit “offers convenience and customisation at the touch of the fingertips.” It gets a new steering wheel with haptic touch controls, a premium Harman Kardon 700-watt 12-speaker audio system, an expanded 30-colour ambient lighting, and a 9.2-inch Discover Pro infotainment system. The latter comes with voice and gesture control, along with wireless App-Connect connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Added to the upgrades are ergoComfort sports seats that are wrapped in Nappa Carbon leather and feature the new R logo.

In terms of safety, the luxurious Arteon specs sheet gets seven airbags, ABS with EBD and BA, stability control, automatic post collision brake system, rest assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, and a 360-degree camera system. Joining the list are Lane Assist, Side Assist, and Driver Alert. 

Powering the new Arteon R-Line 4MOTION is a 2.0L TSI turbocharged mill churning out a maximum power of 280 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm between 5,100 to 6,500rpm. The power is channelled to a 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system via a 7-speed wet clutch direct shift gearbox (DSG). The setup enables the sedan to accelerate from a standstill to 100 kmph in 5.6 seconds.
