2021 Toyota Camry Hybrid received updates in the European market
KUALA LUMPUR: Sold in more than 100 countries globally, the Toyota Camry Hybrid has always been appreciated for its design, comfort, safety, and hybrid technology. Now with an intent to make it more strong and competitive, Toyota has come up with its new iteration boasting a more dynamic design and updated technology.
As earlier, the new Camry Hybrid underpins the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform. Design-wise, the majority of the changes are up front, where one can observe a revised front bumper with a new upper grille. Also, the lower grille available in either a black or dark grey finish is now wider and has subtle silver accents on the edges. Adding to the visual changes are a new pair of 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels, rear lamp clusters with refreshed internals, and a new Deep Metal Grey exterior shade.
Getting inside, here the sedan features a new, floating, 9-inch central console-mounted infotainment touchscreen that has now been placed a bit higher for greater visibility and ease of use. The multimedia system gets mechanical buttons and dials, as well as a faster software and screen response along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support for smartphone integration.
Besides these technology updates, the cabin features some cosmetic enhancements also. It includes the new Beige or Black premium leather seat upholstery option, which comes with stylish, herringbone pattern perforations for better seat ventilation. The Black leather-like seat with fabric insert upholstery option is also there. Furthermore, the instrument panel, console panel, and door switch panel ornamentation are now offered in two newly-developed finishes - Black Engineered Wood and a Titanium Line Pattern.
Toyota also made changes on the safety front as the 2021 Camry Hybrid gets updated Toyota Safety Sense features. Newly added ones are a pre-collision system, emergency steering assist, and intersection turn assistance. Additional safety-enhancing systems include full-range adaptive cruise control that works with road sign assist and lane trace assist.
Talking about the mechanical configuration, the sedan does not get any update on this front. Under the bonnet lies the same 2.5-litre self-charging gasoline hybrid mill that churns out a combined total of 218 PS and is mated to a CVT gearbox. The Camry Hybrid can be driven in pure ICE or pure EV mode or a combination of both.
The sales of the new Camry Hybrid will commence in the European markets in the first quarter of 2021. Coming to home, the Japanese automaker does not sell the Camry hybrid trim in Malaysia, however, its ICE version currently retails at RM 188,763.
