2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost made its global debut

KUALA LUMPUR: When it comes to exotic cars, Rolls-Royce is a well-known luxury marque that holds illustrious 116-year history. In that period, the brand rolled out some spectacular vehicles, including the first-generation Ghost in 2009, which later on emerged as the brand’s best-selling model. And now, it has been succeeded by the recently unveiled second-generation Ghost, the most technologically laden Rolls-Royce yet. 

According to the automaker, the 2021 Rolls Royce Ghost design approach is kept minimal as per the customers’ feedback received at the time of developing it. Thus, the sedan gets sleeker revisions on the outside, including a brand new front grille with 20 LEDs for layered illumination, a busier bumper section, laser headlights, and redesigned tail lamps.

The all-new Rolls-Royce Ghost has undergone an impressive transformation on the inside. It features a newly developed illuminated front fascia, which graces the dashboard panel on the passenger side with the illumination of a Ghost nameplate and 850 stars. 

The new Ghost comes with lots of screens, including a set of digital dials, a central infotainment display, and a pair of displays at the back with fold-out wooden tables. Other niceties include better soundproofing and audio quality, self-closing doors, and satinwood trim on the dashboard.

Under this new skin, the second-gen Ghost houses a chassis that is exclusive to Rolls-Royce, contrary to the old Ghost, which had BMW 7 Series-derived chassis. The new frame incorporates the flexible all-aluminum architecture that underpins the new Cullinan and Phantom. The new Ghost is also 89 mm longer, 30 mm wider, and 21mm taller than its predecessor. However, the wheelbase is unchanged at 3295 mm.

Speaking of the powertrain, the luxury sedan equips a 6.8-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine good for producing 563 horsepower and 850 Nm of peak torque. The new V12 is more potent and a lot torquier than the earlier 6.6-litre unit, and it hustles the sedan to 100 kmph in just 4.5 seconds. An eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive modernize this Rolls-Royce.

Safety and driver-assistance features comprise a four-camera system with a panoramic view, active cruise control, collision warning, vision assist, day and night-time wildlife and pedestrian warning, lane-departure, and lane-change warning. 

Rolls-Royce has not yet disclosed the 2021 Ghost price and availability details but indicated that it would also have a 10-year cycle like its predecessor.
