2021 Mini John Cooper Works Countryman: First impression

Born in 2010, the Mini Countryman has been a very important model for the British marque, accounting for almost 30% of its worldwide sales. The facelifted version of this big Mini hit the local shores back in February and now it’s the time for its updated JCW model. Yes, Mini Malaysia just pulled the wraps of the 2021 Mini John Cooper Works Countryman alongside the new Mini John Cooper Works 3 Door. 

In this “first impression” story, we will cover all the aspects giving you a better idea of the new Mini JCW Countryman that’s loved by customers not only in Malaysia but all around the globe.

2021 Mini JCW Countryman Exterior

The exterior tweaks present on the new model start right from the revised front grille and go all the way to the new tail lights and rear bumper. The grille now has bigger intakes and is now flanked by redesigned adaptive LED headlights integrated with matrix function. However, the aggressive front bumper and deep side skirts remain unchanged. On the back, the car gets darkened Union Jack LED tail lights grabbing all the attention while a more angular rear bumper and bigger vertical reflectors are also noticeable.

The JCW Countryman also boasts red stripes on the bonnet, red door mirrors, a red roof, and 19-inch Circuit Spoke two-tone alloys wrapped in run-flat tyres. Colour options include Rebel Green, Midnight Black, and White Silver.

Inside the cabin, the new JCW Countryman received the following upgrades

• A new 5-inch fully digital display in a sleek Black Panel design providing all important info to the rider
• A new steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather with red stitching
• An updated infotainment system supporting a wide array of intelligent services and apps
• Qi wireless smartphone charger.
• JCW sports seats upholstered in Carbon Black leather and Dinamica microfibre

Continuing features are a head-up display, keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, auto-dimming mirrors, Harman Kardon sound system paired with 12 speakers, and a rear picnic bench.

2021 Mini JCW Countryman Engine and performance

The new Mini John Cooper Works Countryman is powered by the ongoing 2.0 litre turbo four-cylinder engine sourced from the BMW. The mill generates a maximum power output of 306 PS between 5,000 and 6,250 rpm and a peak torque of 450 Nm from 1,750 to 4,500 rpm. It is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels. A mechanical locking front differential is also a part of the mechanical setup.

Performance-wise, the hot Mini can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.1 seconds before maxing out at a top speed of 250 kmph. Mini claims a fuel consumption average of 7.6 litres per 100 km for the crossover.

As for driving-related gears, the new version gets an updated adaptive suspension with 10% more damping than before, along with 4-pot Brembo brakes at the front.

2021 Mini JCW Countryman Safety

Just like the 3 Door hatch, the new JCW Countryman also gets the Driving Assistant package as standard, Features included in the pack are autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane keeping assist, automatic high-beam, traffic sign recognition, and a Parking Assistant. Other standard safety features on board are six airbags, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, and rear ISOFIX child seat anchors.

2021 Mini JCW Countryman Price

As far as the 2021 Mini JCW Countryman price is concerned, the hot crossover will cost you RM 375,493 (on the road price exclusive insurance, inclusive SST rebate). A 2-year unlimited mileage warranty is included in the price but if you opt for the five-year warranty and service package, you need to shell out an amount of RM 383,463.
